Helen L. Hadley, 1920-2013

Helen L. Hadley, 93, died at 4 a.m. Sept. 14, 2013, at The Arbors Nursing Home in Delaware, Ohio.

She was born on Feb. 4, 1920, in Tuscarawas County, Ohio to Jesse and Ruby Maurer Dietz, who preceded her in death. On Oct. 29, 1938, she married David B. Hadley, who died Oct. 12, 1991.

Mrs. Hadley graduated from Sugarcreek Shanesville High School in 1937. She retired from Irene's Bridal Shop, Lima, where she worked as a seamstress. She was a member of Alger Assembly of God Church and a former member of Harrod United Methodist Church and the UMW. She volunteered as an adviser for Harrod Cheerful Workers 4-H Club for 25 years.

ONU's Miss Minnesota is 4th runner-up in Miss America Pageant

Rebecca Yeh, Ohio Northern University student, and Miss Minnesota, became the 4th runner-up in the 2014 Miss America Pageant Sunday night in Atlantic City.

After winning Thursday's talent competition it was obvious that she would break through to the top 15 finalists, which she did. But she continued up the ladder and was among the last five finalists standing.

As fourth runner up she receives a $10,000 scholarship. 
3rd runner up - Miss Florida
2nd runner up - Miss Oklahoma
1st runner up - Miss California
Miss America 2014 - Miss New York

Ada comes up on top of the NWC "Battle of the 'Dogs"

Strong defense and a big game from sophomore wide-out Blake Ansley, propelled the Ada football Bulldogs to a 20-0 Northwest Conference win, in chilly Columbus Grove last Friday night. Hauling in 8 receptions for 153 yards and 2 touchdowns, Ansley helped the Dogs advance their record to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the conference.

The game started slow, with both teams pitching a shut-out in the first quarter. Ada got on the board first, after just over seven minutes of play into second period, when senior quarterback Matt Wilcox hit Ansley on a fourth and five for a 35 yard touchdown. The extra point was blocked, giving Ada a 6-0 lead.

Nathan Davis winner of Icon's week 3 football contest

Nathan Davis is the winner of Week 3 of the Icon football contest, according to Corey Greer, contest judge. Davis, Melina Woods and Tater Hooker all correctly picked 11 games. Davis was declared the winner by virtue of the first tie-breaker.

ONU's own Miss Minnesota wins Miss American talent competition on Thursday

Hold on to your seats, Ada.

Miss Minnesota, Rebecca Yeh, 20,  an Ohio Northern University student, won the $2,000 scholarship in the talent competition in the Miss America contest, held Thursday night in Atlantic City.

She performed a violin solo and is reported to have said, "I'm going to sleep with this,"  while holding her award after the competition.

Yeh, who wants to be a pharmacist, said she has no plans to pursue a career in music, but loves playing the violin for others. She began taking lessons at 4 years of age because she was trying to keep up with her older brother, she said.

A little bit of Ada in the Miss America pageant

The new Miss America will be crowned Sunday night in the nationally televised finale from Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, N.J. Rebecca Yeh, Miss Minnesota, an Ohio Northern University student, won the talent preliminary with a classical violin performance on Wednesday. Miss America pageant is on ABC television at 9 p.m. Sunday.
