Lunches to go serving from 75 to 100 area youth per week

$1,200 grant from Hardin County Community Foundation operates through Beatitudes

Thanks to a $1,200 from the Hardin County Community Foundation, Ada and area have free lunches this summer.

As in past years, the grant is operated through Beatitudes. According to Deb Curlis, this year, due to the covid-19 virus, it’s a “lunches to go” program.

Lunches are available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with extra lunches handed out for Wednesdays and Fridays. Lunches in the past were available at Ada park. This year they are picked up at Beatutudes on North Main Street.

“This summer’s program started in early June,” said Curlis. “We serve around 200 meals a week, which serves from 75 to 100 youth per day.

Icon seeks reviewers with opinions

For movies, music and books

• Can you review movies?
• How about pop singers?
• Or, books?

Do you watch lots of movies and have your own opinions about them?
Do you listen to the latest preforming groups or solo acts ... or know what group is performing where, next?
Do you read book after book after book and have your own thoughts on them?

The Bluffton and Ada Icon seeks reviewers interested in writing movie reviews,  music reviews and book reviews. No, not one to write each of the three; one for movies, one for music, and one for books.

They called for a parade encore.

If you enjoyed the May parade at Vancrest Ada celebrating National Nursing Home Week, wait until July 8.

A Red, White and Drive Through – oh, who thinks of up these clever titles? – is set for Wednesday, July 8, similar to the May parade.

The community is invited to participate with cars, trucks, tractors, golf carts, practically anything that has wheels.  Parade line up is at 4 p.m. in the parking lot in front of Ada schools. The parade starts at 4:30 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to create signs, decorate vehicles in red, white and blue, and be prepared to honk and wave as residents will watch from  front-row seats.

It all started in June 1952 at 206 N. Main St., Ada.

Vince Reichert opened Reichert’s Men’s Clothing Store. The new business held a formal opening on Friday, June 13, that summer. The large Ada Herald newspaper ad stated: “Favors will be given to all men and women visiting our store opening day.”

Note: The Icon thanks Jon Umphress for sharing Reichert's store-opening 1952 newspaper ad.

Hardin fair board wants your opinion

A survey designed to gauge stakeholders' opinions on holding a modified fair in varying degrees is linked below

The Hardin County Fair board invites input of exhibitors, buyers, potential guests, campers and community members concerning this year's fair.

A survey designed to gauge stakeholders' opinions on holding a modified fair in varying degrees is linked below.

"The fair is for the youth and for the community," said Corey Ledley, Hardin County Fair board president.  "We are using this survey to get an accurate read on what the community is feeling."

While the decision to hold or not hold a fair will not be made solely on this data, it will play a role.
