Liberty Township CARES Act funds go to fire and EMS

Township received more than $86,000 in government funding

Liberty Township trustees announced significant contributions to two township entities this week.

The trustees received a little over $86,000 in CARES funding. They gave $60,500 to the Ada-Liberty Township Fire Department and $24,000 to the Ada-Liberty Township EMS.

According to Patty Griffin, township fiscal officer, the fire department used part of the funds to purchase an extractor machine that will wash turnout gear. The department also purchased new turnout gear.

The EMS was given $24,000. Members of the township trustees are Gary Hall, chair, with Brad Hays and Jeff Acheson.

Monday's blood drive from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Ada's next American Red Cross blood drive is from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 23, in the Community Health Professionals Ada Visiting Nurses conference room, 1200 S. Main St.

"There is a special need for blood type "O" at the moment," she said."There are six Power Red time slots open at the Ada drive. If you are a previous Power Red donor or if you have type O blood, please click here.

Face coverings are required at this blood donation.

Chicago, Fort Wayne and Eastern Railroad plans $9 million upgrade

The line through Ada will upgrade its Lima rail yard

The freight railroad that passes through Ada will begin a multi-million dollar update in its Lima rail yard.

The Chicago, Fort Wayne and Eastern Railroad (CFE) will receive $462,000 to match $4,358,547 of its own funding and a $4,530,546 grant to assist with upgrades in the Lima Yard and on approximately 11 miles of track from Lima to north-central Indiana.

The announcement was made at the Nov. 18 meeting of the Ohio Rail Development Commission.

CFE was among four grants the Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) approved.
