Here's Alger Public Library holiday hours

Here are holiday hours for the Alger Public Library.

• Closing early at 5 p.m. on Wednesday Dec. 23.
• Closed Dec. 24 and 25
• Open back for regular hours at 10am Monday December 28th
• Closing early at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31
• Closed Friday, Jan. 1 
• Open back for regular hours Monday, Jan. 4

Current Ada classroom model will continue in January

Superintendent: "We plan to operate on that plan for two weeks... We will analyze our numbers and consult the health department and make a decision for the week of Jan. 19-22."

Meri Skilliter, Ada school superintendent, posted the following message on the school website concerning the school's teaching plan beginning Jan. 4, 2021:

We certainly appreciate all of the adapting and adjusting our families and students (and staff) have done over the last year as we traverse this pandemic. 

We were exceptionally thrilled to welcome students back to the building two weeks ago. While five days a week is optimum, it was good for all of us to have them back, at least a couple of days in person, to reconnect and assist them in person as needed. 

What a unique way to end a semester.  As always, our students have been flexible and resilient.

Issues involving white-tailed deer

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is asking white-tailed deer hunters in portions of Wyandot, Marion, and Hardin counties to submit samples of harvested deer for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) testing. Testing is voluntary but highly encouraged. 

CWD is a fatal neurological disease that affects deer populations. A CWD-positive wild Ohio white-tailed deer was recently identified in Wyandot County.

The Division of Wildlife will implement its CWD response plan, which includes enhanced surveillance in 15 townships in the surrounding area, to monitor for the disease.

Quiet year for Ada Community Improvement Corp.

2020 will be remembered for many things. One of which is the cancellation of several Ada organizational meetings.

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce and Ada Community Improvement Corp. (CIC) are among those feeling that pinch.

The chamber recently held its voting for 2021 board members via email. And, the CIC is doing the same thing.

Five CIC board members have terms expiring on Dec. 31. They are Jamie Hall, Brandt Miller, Eileen Peterman, Angela Polachek and Norm Rex. Those board members are on the ballot for terms in place for Jan. 1, 2021, to Dec. 31, 2022.

Tonight's school board meeting moved to K-12 cafeteria

The 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 17, Ada school board meeting will take place in the K-12 building cafeteria, according to Meri Skilliter, superintendent.
