Ada resident plays an integral part

In protecting nearly 10,000 troops throughout the Middle East

Lt. Col. Matt Crawford, an Ohio National Guardsman from Ada, plays an integral part in protecting approximately 10,000 troops supporting Task Force Spartan throughout the Middle East.

Crawford, the 38th Infantry Division's protection chief, oversees and coordinates protection measures from chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive attacks, engineer survivability and personnel recovery efforts.

“The protection warfighting function is about economy of force and ensuring forces are available to the commander when needed, which is why we have our rapid reaction forces and quick reaction force,” said Crawford.

Icon: Do you intend to continue your education with a master’s and beyond?
Verolinda:
 Yes, after I am done with the studies here, I am planning on getting another master’s degree on Europe. My plans are to study international law.

Icon: How many languages do you speak?
Verolinda:
I speak Albanian and English.

Meanwhile, in Florida

There's Ada 'Gators and Florida 'gators. Here's one of the Florida variety. Monty Siekerman sent this photo greeting form the Sunshine State. He said the alligator in this photo was prowling around the neighborhood where his sister lives. 

And we thought icy road were dangerous. Monty says it's 8-foot plus.

Illinois contestant wins Icon's Oscars contest

Alisha White, a contestant from Illinois,  is the winner of the Icon's Oscars Contest. She had 7 out of 8 answers correct. 

The award for Best Picture went to Parasite. This is the first time that an international film has been awarded Best Picture. Parasite also was awarded Best Original Screenplay and Best International Film (this category was not covered in the Icon contest). The director of Parasite, Bong Joon Ho, was awarded Best Director.

Carol Warmbrod attended Ada school; for a time was a secretary at ONU

Carol Warmbrod is in the Vancrest Ada resident spotlight this month. A story and photo of her are featured in this month’s Vancrest newsletter.

Carol attended Ada school and graduated from Hardin Northern. A farm girl, she grew up on a farm where there were cows, pigs and chickens. An avid baseball fan, she played that sport and basketball in high school.

She and her husband, Dale, a farmer, were married in 1957, after high school graduation. They had two children.  Carol worked for a time as a secretary at Ohio Northern University and later in Blossom Gallery, floral shop, Kenton.

Ada Historical society meets on Monday

Ada Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, Feb. 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the Ada Public Library, 320 N. Main Street.

This meeting is open to the public, and is always open to new members.
