Ohio Northern University faculty member Dr. Dennis De Luca was recognized Friday by Lima Memorial Health System for his role in bringing COVID-19 testing to the greater Lima region.
The event also recognized Ohio Northern University. Click here for addtional background on the testing.
Lima Memorial Health System and Ohio Northern University partnered to bring PCR molecular testing for COVID-19 to the region earlier this year.
Dr. De Luca, associate professor of biological sciences and a molecular specialist, helped lead the initiative on behalf of ONU.

A 1973 Ohio Northern University law graduate, State Representative Bob Cupp (R-Lima) was elected as the new Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives on July 30.
“I am deeply grateful to have earned the support of my fellow colleagues who have entrusted me with the position of Speaker of the House. It is a great privilege to lead this chamber, and I pledge to do so honorably, fairly and humbly,” Cupp said in remarks to the House.
“It is imperative to restore the public’s trust in our elected officials. The legislative branch of government must serve to enact laws in the interest of the people of Ohio, not to engage in activity shrouded in corruption.”
Christina Sneary, a Vancrest long-term care nurse, is in this month's Vancest employee spotlight.
The Ada High School gradaute was previously an STNA before she returned to school to attain an LPN. She says that nursing is her favorite occupation because of the bond developed between nurses and residents.
He transformed a section of underutilized land to a garden

"Today’s featured Ada Icon Veggie Garden belongs to Wyliam Bowden of North Main Street.
A sophomore in Ada Exempted Village Schools, Wyliam’s love of plants prompted him to commandeer an unused section of his family’s yard along the back alley for his garden.
He improved the soil by adding coconut fiber, peat moss, sand, expanded pumice, and perlite. Wyliam carries bucket of water to his garden each day, where he grows, potatoes, carrots, watermelon, hot peppers, and other types of produce.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced the appointment of Kristy S. Wilkin to the Fourth District Court of Appeals.
Wilkin, of Hillsboro, will assume office on Aug. 3, and must run for election on Nov. 3, for the remainder of the unexpired term ending Feb. 8, 2023.
Wilkin is replacing Judge Matthew W. McFarland who was appointed by President Trump as Judge of the U.S District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.
Wilkin is currently a partner at Peelle Law Offices Co., LPA in Hillsboro, Ohio. She has served as an adjunct professor at Southern State Community College and held a judicial externship in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.
