Ada librarian guest at Kiwanis meeting

Myrna McCurdy called the 14th meeting (January15th) of the 2012–2013 Kiwanis Year to order at 12:00 noon at McIntosh Center, ONU.

The invocation was given by Jon Umphress.

Amanda Bennett, new librarian at the Ada Public Library, was welcomed as a guest.
The membership anniversaries of Scott Allison 1/16/07; and Bob McCurdy 1/21/1997 were noted.

I’m a senior.

Tell me about your crutches.

I’ve recently had reconstructive surgery on my right ankle. It was on Dec. 26 at Orthopedic Institute of Ohio in Lima. I’m glad I finally got it taken care of.

The birthday of member Ann Donnelly-Hamilton (January 5th) was noted.
The membership anniversaries of Claudia Crawford  (January 6, 1998;) and Saundra Neely (January 8) were also noted.

Ada's "Miss Ohio" Miss America title run comes to an end

Ada hometown girl, ONU pharmacy student and Miss Ohio Elissa McCracken did not take home the crown in the Miss America pageant on Sunday.   The winner was Mallory Hytes Hagan, Miss New York. 

Elissa will continue her pursuit of her doctoral degree in Pharmacy at ONU and still has duties as Miss Ohio.

Bradley Smith wins Icon's college football bowl contest

Bradley Smith won this year's Icon football college bowl contest. Smith correctly picked 19 winners. Six contestants were one win behind the winner. The Icon will hold a Super Bowl contest coming coon.

Seven Rhythm in Motion dancers perform in Outback Bowl pregame/halftime show

Seven area dancers from Rhythm In Motion Dance Centre of Ada participated in the 2013 Outback Bowl pregame and halftime shows on New Year’s Day, according to Darcey Schneider, studio owner.

Schneider told The Icon that she submitted an audition tape last January to Just For Kix, the organization in charge of the pregame and halftime shows, and secured a spot for the group of dancers when RIMDC made the cut and was invited to perform in this amazing opportunity.
