Ada grad to perform on PBS Christmas special

Ian Dellifield, a 2021 graduate of Ada High School, will be performing with the Belmont University School of Music World Percussion Ensemble on the televised PBS special, “Christmas at Belmont” on December 20.

Dellifield is a freshman majoring in Commercial Music, Percussion. On campus, Dellifield is also a member of the Jazz String Septet performing group and a member of the band Checkered, which will be performing at Rodeo Austin 2022.

Sigma Phi Epsilon volunteers, Brunk named to Tree Commission

On November 12 a volunteer crew from Sigma Phi Epsilon helped clear the downtown of leaves dropped by the 120-year-old and 110-foot-tall sycamore that is located next to the Ada Theatre on Main Street. A local shopkeeper compared the influx of super-sized leaves to snow drifts.

Allison named 2021 Ada Distinguished Citizen of the Year

Arlene Allison, the Title I Reading Teacher at Ada Elementary School, received a surprise visit on Wednesday, November 17 notifying her that she is the 2021 Ada Distinguished Citizen of the Year. Ada Area Chamber of Commerce director Deb Curliss and Ada students and staff congratulated her on the award.

Allison’s nomination highlighted her ongoing involvement with the Ada Academic Boosters and Ada Music Boosters, as well as leading the Harvest and Herb Queen competition for 20 years. 

Former Ada resident and veteran featured in People

Deyonka Hickey, who grew up in Ada and raised her kids in Bluffton, is featured in a recent issue of the weekly magazine People. The article “Hero Veterans Are Stepping Up to Feed Fellow Vets Suffering from Food Insecurity” details how difficult it was for her to accept help from a Lima food pantry when she ran out of money to feed her family after leaving the Air Force.
