Jack Frost

Jack Frost painted the inside of a garage door in Ada on Sunday morning. Cold and snow may be getting old hat by now, but look around and you’ll find exceptional beauty in nature.

Jack Frost “painted” what looks like a wheat field. It’s only temporary, of course. Frost follows in the footsteps of Vincent Van Gogh, who, during his lifetime, painted dozens of wheat fields from The Netherlands to the south of France. Van Gogh’s paintings, not fleeting, are worth millions of dollars each nowadays. This window of “wheat” does bring momentary joy, however...at no cost.

Ban! Ban! Ban!

The State of Ohio now has an invasive plant list that has banned 38 species, some of which you may have growing in your yard.  Have a callery pear, Russian olive, tree-of-heaven, common barberry, multiflora rose? These are on the list.

The state won’t make you dig up and destroy what you have, but these species can no longer be sold in Ohio. Sorry, the state can tell you want you can’t grow. Most likely, you won’t be arrested and thrown into a jail of brambles, if you do buy one from an out-of-state, clandestine operation.

Icon dog of the week - Joey

Meet Joey. Joey is an 8 year old boxer. Joey is available now. Can you offer Joey his forever home?

To give a dog a forever home, contact the Hardin County dog shelter. It is located at 49 Jones Road on the west side of Kenton.

Hours: 9 am to 4 pm on Monday, Thursday, and Friday. Phone: 419-674-2209.

Generally, about 20 to 25 dogs are available for viewing.

The shelter is also the place to contact for giving up a dog, if you find a lost or stray dog, or if you come in contact with a vicious dog. It costs $20 to surrender a dog, which pays for deworming and immunizations for when it is rescued.
