Monty Siekerman - Mr. Ada Icon - steps down Dec. 31

Public invited to retirement reception Dec. 19 at COSI

The community is invited to a reception for Monty Siekerman, who will retire as editor of Ada Icon on Dec. 31, according to Fred Steiner, Icon owner.

He has provided stories and photo for the Icon since 2015 and served as editor since December 2016.

The retirement reception is from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, at COSI, 534 S. Main St., Ada.

"We invite Icon viewers to congratulation Monty for all the work he has accomplished with the Icon and with countless community activities," said Steiner. "Monty has been the face of Ada Icon for several years and wish him well."

Dinner for the soul

Ada scout achieves Star rank

Boy scout Donald Waters achieved the Star rank at the recent Ada Troop 124 Court of Honor held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. 

Donald is an accomplished outdoor scouter and will now work on badges and service to the community, nation, and world to earn the coveted Life and Eagle scout ranks.

Fundraising buffet at Viva Maria's supports ONU Newman Club

15 students will participate in a four-day retreat in January

The Newman Club at ONU sponsored a fundraising buffet at Viva Maria’s Restaurant on Sunday afternoon.

Proceeds will go toward sponsoring 15 ONU students on a four-day retreat in January in Ohio. The retreat will include speakers, small group discussions, and fun activities.

The Newman Club, with Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Ada, serves the Catholic community at ONU. It’s a student-run organization built on Catholic Christian ideals designed to serve the Ohio Northern community through religious, social, service and educational activities.

Alger farmer is Ohio’s master shepherd

Dave Burkhart recognized at Buckeye Shepherd’s Symposium

Hardin County sheep producer Dave Burkhart was named the 2018 Charles Boyles Ohio Master Shepherd of the Year at the Buckeye Shepherd’s Symposium held Dec. 1 in Wooster.  

He started his sheep production enterprise in 1987 when he purchased his farm near Alger.  He built his flock up to 300 head of sheep, but has since decreased the size of his operation.  Burkhart is a commercial sheep producer, raising crossbred Dorset white faced ewes, along with some Suffolk-Hampshire crossbred ewes.  His ewes are bred each year with a couple of purebred Suffolk rams, a crossbred Hampshire and a white-faced ram that isn’t always a Dorset.

Meet Bella. She is a one year old lab mix. She is a sweetheart and looking for someone to love in a forever home. 

To give a dog a forever home, contact the Hardin County dog shelter. It is located at 49 Jones Road on the west side of Kenton.

Monday 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. 
Tuesday and Thursday - closed 
Wedneday 12 p.m.- 6 p.m.
Friday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Generally, about 20 to 25 dogs are available for viewing.
