First grade art exhibit causes major snowfall in Ada

Funny thing. Ada's snowfall this season was nowhere until an exhibit of snowmen, snowwomen and snowpeople appeared at the Ada Public Library.

The exhibit by Ada first grade artists must have shaken loose the sky above Ada. This weekend, well, you know...it snowed and snowed and snowed.

The first grade artist exhibit displays much imagination. Viewers will notice at least one snowwoman with eyelashes.

Other observations from this art critic: The artists carry much tradition. For example, what are those black small circles in the pictures? They certainly aren't pieces of coal. Ada's coal yard is decades gone. Yet, there they are.

Elementary students loved the show

Varsity Singers performed on Friday

Ada Varsity Singers gave a special performance of this year’s show to Ada elementary students on Jan. 11.

Based on comments posted on Ada Bulldogs Facebook the performance was a huge hit.

“Little Red” (as in Little Red Riding Hood) is this year’s Varsity Singers show theme. Vocalists are directed by Scott Henning and instrumentalists are directed by Jonathan Lischak. Varsity Singers have 28 singers, 13 band members, and 4 crew members.

Oshra Gadkar, an ONU student, is choreographer. Aleece Al-Olimat, an AHS sophomore, is pianist.

Music and costumes from the 1940s-1950s era add nostalgia to this year’s show.

Kiwanis Club update

Next meeting Jan. 15 at McIntosh Center

President-elect Marlene Hoorman presided over the Jan. 8 Ada Kiwanis Club, which met at New China Restaurant.

Members discussed the 67th annual pancake and sausage Day. It was agreed future calendars would be scanned and the project discussed further at the January 15 meeting.

It was noted that the new Kenton Kiwanis Club has been granted its official charter from Kiwanis International. The new club will celebrate with a Charter Night Party at a future date.

The club will meet at noon, Tuesday, Jan. 15,  in the Dean’s Heritage, McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University.

Betty Layman is a pro at balloon volleyball

Betty Layman is a resident in our Assisted Living. She celebrates her birthday on April 24. 

Betty is now a widow after being married to Allen for 60 years. They had six children together, which include one adopted daughter and a set of twins. Betty enjoys reading in her free time and loves to pass the time doing it.

She is not much into sports even though she is a pro at balloon volleyball. Betty’s favorite time of year is the fall with the changing leaves and the cooler weather.

Area students on ONU fall dean’s list

Several area students were named to the Ohio Northern University fall semester dean’s list. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a student must attain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and be enrolled full-time.
