Who is Ken Lauria, the new village councilman appointed to fill the unexpired term of Beth Fenton who recently resigned to help the Red Cross?

Ken has both an engineering degree and law degree, is part owner of a company, and is probably best known locally for his work helping to organize and raise money for the Ada Dog Park.

He is married to Cathy Cole, general manager and part owner of Cole Motor Sales. Ken and Cathy probably will be the first married couple to serve on Ada Village Council at the same time.

Beth Fenton has resigned from village council to devote time volunteering for the Red Cross in a position she describes as “challenging and rewarding.”

In her new capacity with the Red Cross, Beth will be deployed as part of a disaster action team in the United State or internationally.  She has been deployed twice in the past year, once to Florida for Hurricane Irma, then to North Carolina for Hurricane Florence.

She said that members of the disaster action teams work 12-hour days for seven days, then have a day off. She described the experiences as “emotionally intense.”

About 150 senior citizens attended the 27th annual Christmas luncheon at the Ada Schools on Wednesday.

Many attendees were dressed for in colorful sweaters for the holiday season. Santa greeted everyone while giving out candy canes. The luncheon offers the school system an opportunity to thank the seniors for their support, in many ways, during the time they have lived in the school district.
