Naming of James Lehr Kennedy Engineering Building honors ONU’s heritage and future

Ohio Northern University’s pioneering heritage, enterprising spirit and promising future converge with the naming of the University’s newest building: the James Lehr Kennedy Engineering Building.

The first classes are scheduled be held in fall 2019 in this innovative facility, which is currently under construction.

The naming of the building honors Kennedy’s service and contributions to ONU. Beyond serving the University as a member of its Board of Trustees, he has made an irrevocable estate pledge gift of $10 million to Ohio Northern.

New pond ready for rain

Here’s a new retention pond dug just south of The Inn at ONU. The pond was empty Friday afternoon but it won’t take long to fill, if the weather forecasts are accurate. Thanks to tropical depression Gordon, Ada can expect 3 to 5 inches of rain from Saturday afternoon through Monday morning. There are flash flood warnings in this area, as well. The pond is part of the storm sewer project that has been under construction the past few months. The storm sewer pipe runs north and south on campus near Heterick Library, McIntosh Center, and The Inn

What is current economy like for college biz grads?

Four recent ONU business graduates of will share their career and life stories during a panel discussion, “The First Five Years,” at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 10 in Dicke Hall.

 

The event, which is free and open to the public, is part of Executive Week, an annual event at ONU during which ONU business students have opportunities to interact with professionals in the field to gain their insights.

 

Panel discussion participants:

·Rob Roll, a 2013 graduate in accounting and finance, is a tax senior at GBQ Partners.

Children 5 to 12 auditions set for “Spectacular”

Performances Nov. 15-16-17-30 and Dec. 1-2

Ohio Northern University will hold children’s auditions for “The ONU Holiday Spectacular” at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9 at the Freed Center.

Auditions will be held for singers and dancers ages 5 to 12. Those auditioning may be asked to sing and should be ready to participate in a dance call (jazz and/or tap shoes). No prepared dance or vocal solos, please.

Beams in place

College of Engineering building changes daily

Workmen begin attaching flooring to the three-story College of Engineering building under construction on the ONU campus. The steel beams are in place.

The $30 million project is on schedule to open in a year. The building will accommodate twice as many engineering students compared to the current Biggs Engineering building, which opened in 1972. Engineering courses were first offered at ONU in 1881.

Wilson gives ONU a perk

Talk about the perks of having great neighbors. When the Polar Bears take to the field on Saturday evening, they will be one of only three schools in the country that get to use the newest Wilson football, the Wilson GST Prime, before its release.
