"Young Frankenstein" comes alive on stage

The Ohio Northern University Department of Theatre Arts will present the musical comedy “Young Frankenstein” from Thursday through Sunday, April 11 through April 14 in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts.

Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on April 11,  April 12 and April 13, with 2 p.m. matinee performances on April 13 and April 14. The performance is being underwritten by Quest Federal Credit Union.

“Young Frankenstein” is based on the 1974 Mel Brooks comedy film, which is an affectionate parody of the classic 1930s horror film.

April 13 3K run-walk benefits Type 1 Diabetes  research

The ONU Professional Association of Women in Science will hold a 3K run-walk starting at the King Horn Center on ONU campus, from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 13.

The cost is $15, and includes a t-shirt; registration will be from 1-1:45 p.m. This fun, family–friendly event gives people with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and those affected by it the opportunity to make a positive impact. Proceeds from the event will go to JDRF, the leading organization funding T1D research.

Additional activities include snacks, live music, free health screenings and corn hole. The walk begins at 2 p.m. and will be outdoors (weather permitting).

ONU women’s tennis sweeps St. Francis

ONU men even record at 5-5

The Ohio Northern women's tennis team lost only eight games en route to a convincing 9-0 victory over NAIA opponent Saint Francis (Ind.) on Sunday afternoon at the Westwood Tennis and Fitness Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 9-3 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 2-15.

$404,889 grant from the National Heart Lung Blood Institute

The Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy has received a $404,889 grant from the National Heart Lung Blood Institute to study the impact of methamphetamine on the heart.

Boyd Rorabaugh, Ph.D., professor of pharmacology and cell biology, is principal investigator, and Manoranjan D’Souza, Ph.D., assistant professor of pharmacology, is a co-investigator on the project.

This funding will provide opportunities for more ONU students to become involved in research while enhancing understanding of the long-term impact of methamphetamine abuse.

Suicide-attempt survivor

Noted mental health advocate Kevin Hines to speak at ONU

Kevin Hines, a suicide-attempt survivor, will discuss suicide prevention at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, in the King-Horn Sports Center gymnasium at Ohio Northern University. Hines is also a renowned mental health advocate and filmmaker. The event is free and open to the public.

Two years after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, Hines attempted to take his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge at the age of 19. He is one of only 34 individuals (less than 1 percent) to survive the fall and the only one to regain full physical mobility.

ONU men’s golfers rally for 9th at invitational

Junior Ryan Tatman (West Chester/Lakota East) finished 29th out of 87 golfers to lead the Ohio Northern men's golf team to a ninth place finish at the Mount Saint Joseph Spring Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the Golf Course at Yankee Trace.

The Polar Bears (14-33 overall) rallied from a 10th place standings after the first round to finish ninth out of 13 teams with a 336-323—659.
