Pharmacists recognized for accomplishments

ONU student chamber earns national awards

The Ohio Northern University student chapter of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) earned several awards at the organization’s recent annual meeting.

The ONU chapter received the 2019 NCPA Student Chapter of the Year Award. This award is given to the student chapter that demonstrates excellence throughout the year in promoting independent pharmacy and advocating for the profession.

Evaluation of chapters is based upon criteria such as program originality, innovation, number of chapter members involved, impact on the community, benefit to student chapter members, and collaboration with independent pharmacies and health care organizations.

ONU Archives open house Wednesday afternoon

"Visitors will learn more about ONU history and how we serve students, faculty, staff and friends of Ohio Northern," said Matt Francis, archivist

Ohio Northern University Archives will hold an open house from 1 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20, in the Heterick Memorial Library, Room 301, according to Matt Francis, archivist.

"Visitors will learn more about ONU history and how we serve students, faculty, staff and friends of Ohio Northern," said Francis.

"During the event you will be able to participate in a 'behind the scenes' tour of the Archives, interact with historic materials, meet your friendly neighborhood archivist, and enjoy a free snack," he said.

In addition, all attendees can enter a drawing to win a $10 gift card for COSI at Northern.

 

Internationally-recognized artist's work in Elzay show

George McCauley exhibit here until Dec. 14

The work of ceramic artist George McCauley is on view now through Dec. 14 at the Elzay Gallery of Art on the ONU campus.

McCauley, a Greek-American potter, has had 30 solo shows and has been included in 300 exhibitions. He has taught and conducted workshops internationally.

He is recipient of four National Endowment for the Arts grants and the prestigious Roy Acuff Chair of Excellence for the Arts at Austin Peay State University. 

His ceramic and sculpture works are included in international collections in 12 countries.

Hakeem Rahim advocate mental wellness

During Nov. 14 talk at Ohio Northern University

Noted speaker and author Hakeem Rahim will discuss mental health concerns and mental wellness at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, in the McIntosh Center ballroom at Ohio Northern University. His talk is free and open to the public.

Rahim is president and CEO of I Am Acceptance, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to destigmatizing mental illness and empowering college students to take control of their mental health.

Rahim has dealt with bipolar disorder and has spoken to more than 65,000 college, high school and middle school students. He has also testified before Senate committees.

25 "Spectacular" years

ONU's popular musical extravaganza hits quarter century mark

A regional holiday entertainment tradition will mark a landmark anniversary this season when the curtain rises on “The ONU Holiday Spectacular” for the 25th edition of this popular musical extravaganza.

The show will be presented in Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 21, Nov. 22 and Nov. 23, with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Nov. 23.

It also will be presented at the Lima Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 6 and Dec. 7, with matinee performances at 2 p.m. on Dec. 7 and Dec. 8. 

Lovett Distinguished Lecture - "Shattering the Glass Ceiling"

Presenter is ONU alum Pam Hershberger

Pam Hershberger, retired partner with Ernst & Young LLP, will deliver the Carroll V. Lovett Distinguished Lecture at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, in the forum of Ohio Northern University’s James F. Dicke Hall. The title of her talk is “Shattering the Glass Ceiling.”

The talk is free and open to the public.

Hershberger, who earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ohio Northern in 1987, pursued a progressive 31-year career with Ernst & Young LLP before retiring in 2018.
