Ohio Northern University sets record with 94 percent placement rate of 2013 graduates

The Polar Careers Office at Ohio Northern University has announced a record 94 percent placement rate for students who graduated in 2013 according to its six-month assessment report. The new mark is up 2 percent from last year for those students who reported placement.

Ninety-six percent of the class of 2013 participated in the placement report; this number is up 3 percent from last year and sets a new standard for ONU.

Northern professor, research assistants present posters at neuroscience conference

Phillip Zoladz, Ohio Northern University assistant professor of psychology, presented two posters at the 43rd annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience in San Diego on Nov. 9-13.

Five research assistants (three current ONU students and two alumni) from Zoladz’s laboratory joined him for the presentation. The topics of the two posters were “Stress administered immediately before learning reduces false memory production and selectively enhances true memory in females” and “Pre-learning social evaluative stress exerts sex-specific effects on long-term picture memory.” 

ONU professor’s research on platypus published

Stephen Kolomyjec, visiting assistant professor of cell and molecular biology at Ohio Northern University, co-authored an article that has been published in the Australian Journal of Zoology.

Titled “Regional population structuring and conservation units in the platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus),” the article was authored by Kolomyjec in collaboration with Tom Grant of the University of New South Wales, Chris Johnson of the University of Tasmania, and David Blair of James Cook University.

Northern's baccalaureate nursing program accredited

Ohio Northern University’s baccalaureate degree program in nursing (BSN) has received a 10-year accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

To receive this distinction, the ONU program met four accreditation standards. The standards include three program quality areas: mission and governance, institutional commitment and resources, and curriculum and teaching learning practices. The fourth is a measure of program effectiveness in student performance and faculty accomplishments.

ONU student recognized at PRSSA national convention

Ohio Northern University senior Lauren Stahl, a communication arts/public relations major from Belle Center, Ohio, was awarded third place for the Betsy Plank Scholarship at the Public Relation Student Society of America (PRSSA) National Conference in Philadelphia on Oct. 28.

“It was such a blessing to attend National Conference and accept my award on stage. The whole experience really opened up my eyes to how remarkable the public relations program is at Ohio Northern University. I couldn’t be more thankful for my professors and personal mentors who have helped me every step of the way,” Stahl said.
