Gospel Ensemble performs in McIntosh April 12

The Ohio Northern University Gospel Ensemble, with special guests the Philippian Missionary Baptist Church Choir of Lima and the Toledo Youth Choir, will perform its annual spring concert in the Bear Cave in McIntosh Center on Sunday, April 12, at 4 p.m.

The concert is free and open to the public. The primary purpose of the ONU Gospel Ensemble is to spread the word of God through song, and its mission is “Winning souls to Christ with a melody.” The Ensemble was formed in 1987 by a group of African-American students who wanted to share their heritage through gospel music.

Two ONU students selected as Goldwater scholars

Ohio Northern University student Steven Blake, a fourth-year pharmacy major, has been selected to receive a Goldwater Scholarship, the premier undergraduate award in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering.

Michael Potter, a senior earning a dual degree in mechanical engineering and applied physics with minors in exercise physiology and astronomy, has received honorable mention accolades.

ONU presents speaker on LGBT-related issues April 8

Tara McBride, an attorney who practices in Columbus, Ohio, will discuss her personal experiences as a member of the transgender community and speak on other lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues in the Ohio Northern University McIntosh Ballroom on Wednesday, April 8, at 7 p.m.

The event, free and open to the public, is part of Unite for Awareness Week and is sponsored by the ONU Department of Psychology, Sociology, and Criminal Justice; ONU Open Doors, and LAMBDA in the Pettit College of Law.

ONU alumni create mural paying tribute to 1913 Columbus flood hero

Ohio Northern A&D alumni create mural that pays tribute to Franklinton’s history

Last week, a 5,000 square foot mural was unveiled that depicted one of Columbus, Ohio's, saddest moments in history—the flood of 1913.

Approximately 500 people died in the flood that occurred 102 years ago. But the mural wasn’t meant to depress, it was meant to illustrate how the citizens of that neighborhood rebuilt their community and overcame adversity, according to Andrew Adams (BFA/graphic design ’13), one of the designers behind its creation.

Ohio Northern University presents reading from poet Anthony Madrid

The Ohio Northern University Department of English completes its 2015 Spring Reading Series with poet Anthony Madrid in the Elzay Gallery of Art on Thursday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m.

Madrid, who lives in Chicago, has published poems in “Best American Poetry 2013,” “Boston Review,” “Fence,” “Lana Turner,” “LIT” and “Poetry”. His first book is called “I Am Your Slave Now Do What I Say.” He has written in forms such as the ghazal and rhyming quatrain, bringing a contemporary, associative, and surreal sensibility to received forms.

Law Dean’s Lecture Series to focus on ‘Talking About Property’

Ohio Northern University’s Pettit College of Law presents James E. Krier, Earl Warren DeLano professor of law at the University of Michigan, as part of the Dean’s Lecture Series in the Celebrezze Moot Court Room on Tuesday, April 14, at 11 a.m.

The title of Krier’s presentation is “Talking About Property.” The event is free and open to the public.

Krier will lead a discussion about property: why we have property, why property law works the way it does, what we think the law can accomplish, and what we think it can’t accomplish. This will be a give-and-take discussion with audience members, who are encouraged to ask questions and participate.
