Electrical engineering student awarded IEEE scholarship

Ohio Northern University student Dutch Malott, a senior electrical engineering major from Newark, Ohio, has been awarded an undergraduate engineering scholarship through the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Power & Energy Society (PES) Scholarship Plus Initiative.

Malott was one of 210 PES engineering scholarship recipients to be selected from the 540 individuals who applied. These undergraduate students are majoring in electrical engineering, are high achievers with strong GPAs with distinctive extracurricular commitments, and are committed to exploring the power and energy field.

$2.9 million agreement will develop Advanced Legal Education Program for Afghan lawyers

The Ohio Northern University Center for Democratic Governance and Rule of Law and the College of Law’s Master of Laws (LL.M.) program will establish an Advanced Legal Education Program for Afghan Lawyers under a $2.9 million cooperative agreement with the United States State Department and the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.

Ohio Northern University third overall in state according The Economist’s first-ever college rankings

The Economist has ranked Ohio Northern University first among Ohio’s four-year liberal arts schools, and third overall in the state, in its first-ever set of college rankings. ONU placed 166 out of the more than 1,200 schools from across the nation.

ONU, which ranked in the 87th percentile, placed third behind Columbus College of Art and Design and the Cleveland Art Institute in Ohio.

ONU ranked among the top 10 ‘Best Value Colleges and Universities in Ohio’

Best Value Schools has ranked Ohio Northern University No. 9 in its “30 Best Value Colleges and Universities in Ohio 2015” rankings published at bestvalueschools.com.

Best Value Schools assigns a numerical score to each school after evaluating graduation rate, net price and 20-year return on investment. After adding the points, the rankings give each university a final score out of 200.

The top 30 schools in the rankings have scores ranging from 91 to 164, and each has something different to offer in terms of its cost, quality and reputation. ONU finished with a final score of 128.43.

Northern University to present saxophonist Adam Briggs Nov. 16

The Ohio Northern University Department of Music presents saxophonist Adam Briggs in the Snyder Recital Hall of Presser Hall on Monday, Nov. 16, at 8 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

Briggs’ program, “A Century in Paris,” is an original concert of music by French composers, spanning the time period from 1860-1960. The concert will include works by Jules Demersseman, Maurice Ravel, Camille Saint-Saëns, Olivier Messiaen and Paule Maurice. The program also will feature collaborative artist Yu-Lien The.

Department of Music presents men’s and women’s fall concert

The Ohio Northern University Men’s and Women’s Choruses will perform their fall concert in the Snyder Recital Hall of Presser Hall on Friday, Nov. 13, at 8 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

The ONU Men’s Chorus, directed by Dr. Ben Ayling, will perform a varied selection of pieces, including “Loch Lomond,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Mary Had a Baby” and the traditional Pennsylvania Dutch tune “Johnnie Schmoker.”
