Beta Alpha Psi ‘Best Practices’ team finishes second in regional competition

Ohio Northern University’s Beta Alpha Psi “Best Practices” team finished second in a competition held as part of the Beta Alpha Psi 2016 Midwest Regional Meeting in Covington, Ky., from April 1-2.

College of Pharmacy students, faculty named Walmart Scholars

Two pairs of students and faculty from the Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy have been named recipients of the 2016 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Walmart Scholars Program.

Each student-faculty pair will receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend the AACP Annual Meeting and the AACP Teachers Seminar in Anaheim, Calif., from July 23-27, 2016.

Dr. Brittany Long, ONU HealthWise resident, and her faculty mentor, Deirdre Myers, pharmacy practice instructor and assistant director of student services at Ohio Northern, received the first award. Long and Myers are both Ohio Northern pharmacy graduates.

University law student selected for Boren Fellowship to Kosovo

Joseph Suszczynski, a second-year Ohio Northern University law student in the concurrent JD/LLM program, has been selected for a Boren Fellowship to Kosovo. Boren Fellowships are an initiative of the National Security Education Program; they provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. graduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions that are critical to U.S. interests.

ONU law commencement on May 15

Ohio Northern University's Pettit College of Law will celebrate its 2016 commencement ceremony in the ONU Sports Center on Sunday, May 15, at 2 p.m. Approximately 100 students will be awarded degrees, and Daniel DiBiasio, Ohio Northern University president, will preside.

The ONU Sports Center is scheduled to open for the commencement exercises at 12:30 p.m. A musical prelude will begin at 1:30 p.m., followed by the procession of faculty and Juris Doctor candidates.

Engineering competition teams earn strong finishes at IEEE conference

Competition teams from the Ohio Northern University College of Engineering earned strong finishes at the 2016 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)s Region 2 Student Activities Conference hosted by Cleveland State University from April 8-10.

ONU’s Sumo Robot team, made up of Tyler Germann, a senior electrical engineering major from New Haven, Ind., and Bryan Wilson, a senior electrical engineering major from Jeannette, Pa., placed third. In a sumo robot competition, teams construct an autonomous robot that fights to push an opponent out of a ring.

Northern on Main to close May 8 for summer-long transformation

Ohio Northern University’s Northern on Main will close to University students and employees as well as the public on Sunday, May 8, at 7 p.m., to transform into a new retail outlet. Ohio Northern, in partnership with its dining services vendor, Sodexo, will open a Così.

An international fast casual restaurant company, Così is set to open in the existing footprint in August 2016 and will feature a variety of signature salads, made-to-order sandwiches, soups, bagels, flatbread pizzas, gourmet beverages and desserts.
