College of Pharmacy students, faculty named Walmart Scholars

Two pairs of students and faculty from the Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy have been named recipients of the 2016 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Walmart Scholars Program.

Each student-faculty pair will receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend the AACP Annual Meeting and the AACP Teachers Seminar in Anaheim, Calif., from July 23-27, 2016.

Dr. Brittany Long, ONU HealthWise resident, and her faculty mentor, Deirdre Myers, pharmacy practice instructor and assistant director of student services at Ohio Northern, received the first award. Long and Myers are both Ohio Northern pharmacy graduates.

Leah Schomburg, a sixth-year pharmacy student from Painesville, Ohio, and her mentor, Dr. Michelle Musser, associate professor of pharmacy practice at Ohio Northern, also were selected to receive the scholarship.

“The Walmart Scholars program seeks to develop a student’s abilities and interest in academic pharmacy through attendance and participation in the AACP Annual Meeting,” said Musser. “We are committed to developing pharmacists who are capable and can contribute to the profession.”

“Participation and networking in the Walmart Scholars program will provide both Brittany and Leah with a bridge between their student and resident experiences and give them the tools to create futures as academic pharmacy leaders,” said Myers.

AACP and Walmart share the commitment to help colleges and schools of pharmacy ensure there are an adequate number of well-prepared individuals who aspire to join the faculties of the expanding programs across the country.
