Jon Umphress was active in several Ada organizations

Held a deep interest in the community and its history

Ada civic leader Jon W. Umphress, 70, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at 1:34 a.m. at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center.

He was born on Dec. 13, 1949, in Lima to the late Wilbur and Virginia (Foss) Umphress. On June 20, 1971, Jon married Susan J. Epley and she survives in Ada.

Throughout his life, Jon worked at the Kenton Times, WKTN Radio Station, the Ada Police Department, and WTGN Christian Radio Station.  He was a frequent contributor to Ada Icon.

He was actively involved with the Ada Kiwanis Club, the Historical Society of Ada, and ham radio.  He was a member of the McGuffey Church of Christ. 

Private graveside service planned for "Nikki" Paynter-Lamb

Barbara Nicole “Nikki” Paynter-Lamb, 30, died on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at Lima Memorial Health System.

She was born on May 31, 1990, in Maryland. On May 22, 2020, Nikki married Ryan Lamb of Lima.

Nikki is also survived by her parents: Rick and Denise (Bontz) D’Arca; three sons: Daniel “Kyran” Metzger, Joshua Lynch, Jr., and Tyler Shelton; two daughters: Kaitlyn and Kourtney Metzger; a step-daughter: Haley Lamb; and a brother: Paul D’Arca.

She was preceded in death by a brother: Anthony D’Arca.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.

 

 

Aaron Evans was employed at Acheson’s Resort in Lakeview

No memorial service planned

Aaron E. R. Evans, 34, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020, at 7:22 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health Systems, due to an auto accident. 

He was born on Nov. 8, 1985, in Kenton, Ohio, to Ronald Lee Evans and Dori (Kiess) Spencer.  His father Ronald survives in Ada and his mother Dori survives in Dunkirk.  Aaron was engaged to his fiancé, BJ Boutwell of Ada.

Aaron worked as a cook at Acheson’s Resort in Lakeview.  He enjoyed fishing, bowling, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.

Also surviving are his two sisters: Jennifer Evans of Ada and Karson Evans of Forest; five nieces and one nephew.

Treva Crawford 1923 - 2020

Treva E. Crawford, 97, died July 2, 2020, at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. Treva was born May 3, 1923 in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Floyd and Christine (Stotts) Harris. On April 11, 1942, she married Raymond Crawford who preceded her in death on March 7, 1983. 

Treva graduated from Bluffton High School. She had worked at Triplett Corporation in Bluffton, in the kitchen at Mennonite Memorial Home and cleaned houses. Treva also volunteered at Bluffton Hospital and Bluffton Senior Citizens.  She was a member of the Mt. Cory United Methodist Church and the Bluffton Senior Citizens.  Treva enjoyed going on the Bluffton Senior Citizens trips and playing cards.  

Sunday visitation for Alex Sweigart

Funeral service Monday at First United Methodist Church

Attendance will be restricted at the funeral and visitation based on space to accommodate social distancing requirements. 

The family and funeral home requests face coverings be worn while attending visitation and service.

Alex Martin Sweigart, 18, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. due to an auto accident.

He was born July 9, 2001, in Bluffton to Robert M. Sweigart and Robin (Work) Tomasi. His father and step-mother, Anne Sweigart, survive in Dola and his mother and step-father, Donald Tomasi, survive in Ada. 

Arrangements incomplete for Alex M. Sweigart

 Alex M. Sweigart, age 18, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020.

He was born on July 9, 2001, in Bluffton to Robert Sweigart and Robin (Work) Tomasi. His father and step-mother, Ann Sweigart survive in Dola. His mother and step-father, Don Tomasi survive in Ada.

Alex was a 2020 graduate of Ada High School and Apollo Career Center. He loved baseball, cars, motorcycling, and hanging out with family and friends.

Alex is also survived by a brother: Adam (Christian Anderson) Sweigart of Ada; a sister: Lisa Oxley of Columbus; a step-sister: Abbigale (Gerald) Hardy of Columbus; paternal grandparents: Robert and Janice Sweigart; and step-grandmother: Cheryl Tomasi.
