Tall flowers

In Ada flowers bloom lots of places. For example, they bloom on Main Street above where people walk. New to the downtown streetscape program this summer are hanging baskets of flowers. These are in front of the Depot park.

Icon weekly high school football contest is back! Enter this week's contest now

The 2014 Icon weekly high school football contest is back! The first week has 10 games plus two tie-breakers. The first week's contest is a practice round for contestants.

Here's how the contest is played:

1 - Contestant's may enter as often as they wish, but may only enter their own name one time per week.

2 - Entry deadlines are 5 p.m. each Friday.

3 - There will be one weekly winner. If there is a tie, the contestant who entered earliest will be declared the winner.

Polar Bear volleyball team picked to finish second in OAC Preseason Coaches Poll

Ohio Northern was picked to finish second in the Ohio Athletic Conference preseason volleyball poll conducted by the league's 10 coaches.

Northern finished the 2013 season 19-9 overall and finished third in the OAC with a 7-2 record.

ONU received 75 points in the poll.

Mount Union was once again picked first with 81 points and nine first place votes, Heidelberg was picked third with 65 points and one first place vote, and John Carroll was picked fourth with 54 points.

Main Street today and - let's turn back the clock 100 years or more

Here's another Ada "past and present" scene. Imagine you are standing on Main Street at the intersection near the First United Methodist Church facing south.

Our scenes are from today and, we're guessing circa 1910. We base this on the Model T Ford parked near the horse and buggy on the west side of the street and the manner in which women are dressed on the east side of the street.

Ada community pep rally Aug. 27

The annual fall Ada community pep rally is set for 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Ada War Memorial Park. That announcement is among several concerning next week at Ada schools. The other announcements follow:

ATTENTION STUDENTS WHO DRIVE TO SCHOOL: Pick up a parking pass form for a parking tag. Forms are available in the HSO. Tags are free; a replacement tag will cost $1.

2 HR EARLY DISMSSAL: Students will be dismissed at 1:30 for Teacher-In-Service Tuesday, Aug. 26.

Nichelson Fire Fund established after fire destroys residences

A fire destroyed the residences of Dean and Rita Nichelson and Donna Nichelson on Aug. 4. Both dwellings and all of their contents were a total loss. 

An account has been set up at the Ada Office of the Liberty National Bank to accept financial donations for the Nichelson families for temporary housing and for the re-building and re-furnishing of their homes.
