Here comes the band, ready for fall football and band competitions

After two tiring weeks, Ada High School band camp concluded on Friday. The conclusion of camp was marked with a performance by the band and color guard.

They performed a portion of this season’s competition show in addition to some tunes that can be heard at AHS football games this fall.

Dean Alstaetter feature jazz performer at "JustJazzInn" on Friday

Dean Altstaetter is the performer for the Friday, Aug. 1, “Just JazzInn,” at The Inn at ONU, Ada.

“Just JazzInn” is a regular Friday feature at The Inn at ONU. You can enjoy live music while taking part of the appetizer buffet. The live music, performed by area musicians, takes place in the Inn’s lobby or courtyard.

Call 419-722-2500 to make reservations, or first come/first serve for the weekly event.
The appetizer buffet opens at 5 p.m. each Friday. Live music is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Items on buffet include: Fresh fruit, vegetables, salads, and an assortment of cheeses. Also a selection of six hot items is offered throughout the evening.

Tell us about being homeschooled. What are the best and worst parts about it?

So to clarify about homeschooling in general, the reason I choose to be homeschooled (and the reason my parents gave me the opportunity) is that it gives me the ability to expand my worldview and mind. Why? Because I’m not taught what someone wants me to be taught but I can develop my own ideas about the world - it’s less consuming and more thinking.

Ernest Hopson was a Ford plant employee for nearly 40 years; active in Ada events

Ernest E. Hopson, Jr., 77, died on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 12:50 p.m. at his residence in Ada, surrounded by his wife and children.

He was born Oct. 2, 1936, in Auxier, Kentucky, to Ernest E. and Marie (Webb) Hopson, Sr. who preceed him in death. On July 23, 1956, he married Harlene Sue Wells and she survives in Ada. They just celebrated 58 years of marriage.
