Abe Rowe was pastor of Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God

Rev. Abe Rowe, 87, died Sunday, May 3, at 10:30 a.m.. The son of Noah Rowe and Martha Hollon Rowe, he was born on September 9, 1927 in Breathitt County, Kentucky.
He served at the end of World War II in Germany as a member of the U.S. Army, and received an honorable discharge upon return.

On November 9, 1950 he married Lucy Dyer. He is survived by his wife; four children: Rocky (Vickie) Rowe of Lima, Fred (Kathy) Rowe of Waynesfield, Sonja (Virgil) Dye of Alger, and Paul (Erin) Rowe of Dola; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters: Stella (Frank) Dyer of Alger and Beatrice (Jerry) Kortokrax of Lima.

Mark Bays cares for the Survivor Tree

Mark Bays cares for the Survivor Tree, an 80-year-old American elm that survived the Oklahoma City bombing which occurred 20 years ago in April.

Bays spoke at Tree City USA awards ceremony held at the Toledo Zoo on April 29. At the occasion, the Village of Ada and ONU were both honored for the planning, growth, and care of trees.

During lunch, Bays met with Monty Siekerman who is familiar with memorials built in memory of those lost in disasters. Siekerman's daughter, Amy, and her husband Kyle Miller perished aboard TWA Flight 800 the next year. The memorial for the plane crash is located on Long Island.

Ada HS Envirothon team competes at Camp Palmer

In late April, five students represented Ada High School in the Area 1 Envirothon, according to Tony Dyer, Ada Agricultural Education Instructor. This year's theme was Urban and Rural Forestry.

The event was held at 4-H Camp Palmer near Fayette, Ohio. A total of 58 teams competed in the areas of aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife, and current environmental issues. The Ada team placed 32nd in the annual competition.

Competing in the Envirothon were, from left, Quinn High, Alex James, Ashley Sumner, Jackson Secor and Blake Willeke.

Ada council meeting moved to depot

The Ada village council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 5, at 6:30 p.m. will be held in the Ada Depot located at 112 Central Ave., according to Angela Polacheck, village administrative assistant.

Hardin County courthouse centennial celebration May 25

The Hardin County Courthouse Centennial Celebration will take place on Monday, May 25. 

The day will start out with the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Grove Cemetery at 10 a.m., followed by the parade at 11 a.m. and a re-dedication ceremony of the Hardin County Courthouse at noon. 

The Historic Courthouse will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Persons may tour the courthouse immediately following the re-dedication.

The Hardin County Players will present two mock trials, Hardin County vs Annie the Saint Bernard in the Common Pleas Courtroom, 3rd floor at 1 and 2 p.m. There will be cookies and cupcakes in Veterans Hall.

Mustard Seed Cafe featured in May issue of Ohio Magazine

Mustard Seed Café, 562 N. Main St. Bluffton, is featured in the May 2015 issue of "Ohio Magazine."

Lemon Blackberry Shortcakes get top billing on the cover of the magazine and there is a photo of the summer dessert inside.  Chef Rhonda Moor says that her grandparents’ backyard berry patch inspired the fresh fruit she uses to create the “sweet compote that spills out from between two layers of a rustic shortcake.” 

She indicated that her favorite food memories go back to her grandparents - the many delicious meals experienced with them and the incredibly loving environment in which they were provided.

The May dessert feature at the cafe will be the shortcakes.
