AHS students named NWC scholar-athletes

These Ada High School students have been named Northwest Conference scholar-athletes for the winter sports season. Scholar athletes are letter winners in a sport who have earned the following GPA during the season of their sport:

Gold level -- GPA of 3.50 to 4.00
Silver level -- GPA of 3.00 to 3/49  

Better Hearing and Speech Month - Sherry Miller offers parental advice

Sherry Miller, Speech-Language Pathologist for Ada schools, offers guidance for parents during May's Better Hearing and Speech Month.

With new evidence showing a majority of young children in the United States use personal technology such as smartphones and tablets, it is important that parents ensure technology is not overtaking time for talking, reading, and other verbal communication—which are the primary ways that children learn.

Miller encourages Icon viewers to set meaningful limits on technology use, especially for young children.

Stratton Greenhouses celebrates 66th anniversary open house this weekend

Stratton Greenhouses, 9915 Lincoln Highway, Bluffton, celebrate its 66th anniversary this weekend with an open house from Friday, May 1, to Sunday, May 3.

The event includes food, drawings and several special offers.

Regular spring hours are: 
• Monday - Thursday 9 a.m. -8 p.m.
• Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
• Every Sunday in May - Noon - 5 p.m.

Roger Young will receive ONU honorary undergrad degree

Roger Young is the Ohio Northern University undergraduate commencement honorary degree recipient at this year's ONU undergrad commencement.

Young has positively impacted the lives of thousands of business students during his 34-plus year career at Ohio Northern. He joined the ONU faculty 1964 and retired in 1998. He didn’t stay retired for long; after eight years at Bluffton University, Young returned to ONU as a visiting professor emeritus in 2008.
