Academic Booster seek "a little help from our friends"

The Ada Academic Boosters seek volunteers to help with this year's Elementary Reading Carnival on Friday, May 8.

Grades K-5 participate in this fun event that rewards the kids for their reading efforts throughout the school year.

The students are given tickets that they can use at the carnival to play fun games or win raffle prizes. There are also chances to win books at a guessing game.

According to the Boosters: "We need around 34 volunteers to make this a successful event for the students. Volunteer shifts run from 8:15 - 10:45 a.m. or noon to - 2:30 p.m.

Ohio Northern University Jazz Band to explore ‘ONU Jazz Through the Years’ in April 30 concert

The Ohio Northern University Department of Music presents the ONU Jazz Band on Thursday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts.

The ONU Jazz Band, under the direction of David Sycks, will take a stroll down memory lane as it explores “ONU Jazz Through the Years.” Sycks is the Bluffton High School band director.

The group will play a repertoire from the first days of ONU jazz in the 1960s up to the present, including works by Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Count Basie and Chick Corea. Everett Collier, the “golden voice” of jazz, will be the narrator for the evening. 

Cami Hazelton wins first at state in gymnastics

Cami Hazelton, 11-year-old Ada 5th grader, just finished her second competitive gymnastics year representing Gold Medal Gymnastics in Findlay. This year she competed as a Level 4 and won 1st place in her age division for the 2015 Ohio Compulsory State Meet held in Bowling Green April 10, 2015.  

She also received individual event titles including a tie for 3rd on uneven bars with a score of 8.900; 1st on vault with score 9.050; 1st of balance beam with score 9.100; 1st on floor with score 9.225; and 1st all-around with score 36.275.
