ONU design students to organize Grafik Intervention in Ada Business District

Upper-level design students from Ohio Northern University will host a Grafik Intervention on Friday, April 22 from 8 to 10 p.m. in Ada, Ohio. The event will take place at the historic Pennsylvania Railroad Depot, located in the business district.

In addition, an exhibit will highlight the history and significance of the depot beginning at 8 p.m. Parking will be limited to the east end of the depot’s parking lot.

The event is free and open to the public.

Michael Hubbell replaces Donald Traxler as chair of Hardin Democrats

The Hardin County Democrat Central and Executive Committee reorganization meeting was held at Henry’s Restaurant on April 13.

The meeting was called to order by outgoing County Chair, Don Traxler.  Traxler then announced the resignation of Daryl Flowers as member of the Central Committee.

Traxler then appointed Kathy Flowers of Goshen Township to fill the newly open position on the Central Committee.

G. Michael Collingsworth 1950-2016

G. Michael Collingsworth, 65, died on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 6:38 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima. 

He was born June 21, 1950 in Kenton, Ohio to Paris F. “Pat” and Berniece “Bea” (Prater) Collingsworth. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Alger. On Aug. 30, 1968 he married Brenda F. Bryant and she survives in Alger.

Lewis Family McDonald's offer tax relief special April 18

Lewis Family McDonald’s is giving people a break on tax day. Participating locations will be offering a special promotion for its guests on Monday, April 18.

Customers who buy a Quarter Pounder with Cheese can get the second for just 18 cents. “Our customers look forward to our tax relief special each year,” said Jerry Lewis, local McDonald’s owner/operator. “This promotion is just one more way to offer great value.”

The promotion is available at McDonald’s in Lima, Bluffton, Delphos, Ada, Van Wert, Beaverdam, Ottawa, Upper Sandusky, Carey, Kenton, and Hicksville.

Next time it rains and rains Ada will be ready

Last spring's rains caused considerable damage and inconvenience to property and people on the southwest side of Ada, especially to the campus where damage was reported to be $1 million.

A project is now in the design stage to fix a perennial problem whenever high rains occur. 

The project will relieve flooding on West Lima Avenue and the campus retention ponds near the stadium and west of Fraternity Circle.

But, current thinking means trees will be eliminated in the heart of campus, an area known as the Tundra. Construction crews will be in the way and dirt/mud will be a temporary eyesore, but flooding must be resolved.

Medication Disposal Day in Ada April 23

A Medication Disposal Day will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, in the parking lot between Rite Aid and Northern on Main.

Those who want to dispose of expired or unused prescriptions as well as over-the-counter medications may give them to law enforcement officers at that time. 

The meds will be disposed of in a safe, legal, and environmentally conscious way. 
Here's a photo of last year's volunteers during which time 32 people disposed of unwanted meds.

For Icon readers living closer to Kenton, the event will be held at the hospital there at the same time.
