Ada Tile Company - 1919

Ada was once known for its clay tile company. Here's a post card showing the company. The wording, difficult to read states: 'ADA CLAY CO., ADA, O. DRAIN TILE SIZES 3 1/2 INCHES TO 24 INCHES.

The flip side reveals this was a Christmas and new year's greeting from the company. This particular card was mailed to a customer in Dola on Dec. 23, 1919.

Here's an interesting "ink blotter" advertising piece from Ada. It's from Barney's City Cigar Store, first door north of First National Bank.

The owner, H.M. "Barney" McGonigle, of Ada, offered all kinds of hot sandwiches, home made pies and soups, smoky goods and pool.

The store's "instant service" offered the best coffee in town. Here's the question that ages you: Can you explain the purpose of an ink blotter?

Here's a post card showing Turner Hall, girls dormitory at Ohio Northern University, Ada. Can you determine the model of vehicle parked on the far left corner?  The post card is from 1945 and is from the collection of Leland Crouse of Ada.

A Model T on Main Street

You've stood at this intersection countless times. It's Main Street Ada, looking south from the "M.E. Church," which means Methodist Episcopal Church. This early 1900s colorized photo reveals many things.

• Check out the two, well-dressed women crossing the street on the left. 
• Check out the Model T, the bicycle and the several horse-drawn carts on Main Street
• Check out the poles carrying wires high above the street.
• Check out the bricks in the street.

1913 Ada fire

Perhaps Ada's earliest major fire was 99 years ago. This photo post card shows "destruction of the Administration Building O.N.U. Ada, Ohio, by fire, 2 a.m., Nov. 4, 1013."

Don't mess with these girls.

They are the Philo girls from Ohio Northern University. This team won first place in the indoor military contest at Brown Auditorium on Dec. 17, 1909.
