Bulldog track and field results at Grove Invitational

The Ada High School boys and girls track and field teams competed at the 13-team Columbus Grove Bulldog Invitational Thursday evening, April 14.

The Ada girls finished eighth while the Ada boys came in 10th.

Anna captured the girls team title, while host Grove won the boys team crown.

Junior Courtney Sumner took fourth in the 400 meters and sixth in the long jump to pace the Ada girls.

Governor announces Ohio Task Force on Volunteer Fire Service

On April 14, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced the formation of the Ohio Task Force on Volunteer Fire Service to study and make recommendations to improve volunteer fire service in Ohio. In making the announcement at the Central Ohio Fire Museum, Governor DeWine was joined by Ohio Department of Commerce Director Sherry Maxfield, State Fire Marshal Kevin Reardon, and several local elected officials and firefighters.

Ada baseball upended by last-ditch Pirate rally

The Ada High School baseball team led 2-0 heading to the last inning, but gave up three two-out runs to lose a 3-2 heartbreaker to local rival Bluffton Thursday, April 14, on a cool, windy evening at War Memorial Park.

Ada fell to 2-5 and 0-2 in the Northwest Conference with the tough defeat. Bluffton improved to 2-5 and 1-0 in the NWC after the comeback win.

Bulldog senior hurler Kadin Phipps took a no-hit shutout into the seventh inning as Ada clung to a 2-0 lead. 

Ada girls nipped by Pirate homers in extra-inning thriller

The Ada High School varsity softball team was one out from victory against local Northwest Conference rival Bluffton on a chilly, windy Thursday evening at War Memorial Park.

But behind 9-7 with two outs in the top of the seventh, Pirate senior Lauren Swartzlander slugged a two-run home run well over the center field fence to tie it 9-9.

The teams then battled into extra innings. In the top of the ninth, Bluffton sophomore Lauren Bassett smacked a home run to right field that proved to be the game-winner, 10-9.
