ONU diver Cubberley competes in NCAA DIII Championships

Ohio Northern freshman Holden Cubberley (Celina) competed in the 3-meter diving competition at the NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday, March 16 at IUPUI Natatorium.

Cubberley posted a final score of 395.75 points for 11 dives in the Trials portion of the competition, placing him 19th in the field of 23.

The top eight finishers from the Trials advanced to the Finals, while finishers 9-16 advanced to the Consolation Finals.

Boys varsity baseball begins March 28 at home.

Ellen L. Hipsher was born in Dunkirk

Ellen L. Hipsher, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at 6:34 a.m. at her residence.

Ellen was born on February 6, 1929, in Dunkirk, Ohio to the late Roy and Olive (Blem) Morgan.  On April 30, 1948, Ellen married Jess W. Hipsher and he survives in Dunkirk.

Also surviving are her two sons: Neil (Beth) Hipsher and Jess (Jan) Hipsher both of Dunkirk; four grandchildren, and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Graveside service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 18, 2022, at Dunkirk Cemetery, Dunkirk with Pastor Gregg King officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

The Ada Police Department is in the process of accepting applications for the position of Full-Time Police Officer.

The Ada Police Department serves a community of nearly 6,000 residents and prides itself on being named one of Ohio's and the Nation's Safest Towns.

Our agency enjoys the support of those we serve and through our village Mayor and Council, enjoy a newly remodeled police facility, modern cruisers and equipment.

Our officers work 10-hour shifts with 3, 4-day weekends in a row.

Klondike turns 99

Ohio Northern University is celebrating the 99th birthday of mascot Klondike the polar bear on March 16, 2022.

The Icon has previously dubbed Klondike "the most photographed character in Ada"--but then he's got a head start on most of us.

Happy Birthday, Klondike! 

 

First meeting held for 2022 Made in Ada Football Festival

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce followed its March 16 member meeting with a Made in Ada Football Festival planning session. The event date has been set for Saturday, August 27 and the location will be at the Ada Depot Park, 112 E. Central.

Discussion centered on food trucks, the possibility of a beer sales permit, showcasing of the Wilson football factory and products, a punt-pass-kick competition, and other attractions. Two bands--Voodoo Lane and Shifferly Road Band--have been booked for the event.
