Graphic novel "Blankets" next library book discussion topic

The next Ada Public Library book discussion group tackles a graphic novel "Blankets," by Craig Thompson.

The discussion is at 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 2. Persons interested in joining the discussion may check out a copy of the novel soon.

Plot

Blankets chronicles Craig's adolescence and young adulthood, his childhood relationship with his younger brother, and the conflicts he experiences regarding Christianity and his first love.

Bingo every Thursday in July

Ada Bingo plays on Thursdays in July at the Alumni N-men’s Building in downtown Ada. Those dates are July 4, July 11, July 18 and July 25.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; Bingo begins at 6:55 p.m..

Ada Bingo uses new, radio-controlled electronic machines, as well as, traditional paper
packages.

Proceeds from Ada Bingo benefits the Ada Lion's Club and Ada Music
Boosters.

July blood drives in Hardin County

The American Red Cross has announced it's scheduled blood drives for Hardin County in July.  They are:

  • Monday, July 15, from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at Ada Visiting Nurses and Hospice, located at 4392 State Route 235, Ada.
  • Monday, July 22, from 12 noon until 6 p.m. at the Kenton Moose Lodge, located at 801 W. Lima St., Kenton.

Hardin County Red Cross golf scramble coming up June 29

The Hardin County Red Cross is hosting its 4th annual golf scramble to be held at Veterans Memorial Park Golf Course just east of Kenton on Saturday, June 29, in the morning.

If you haven't already done so, teams of four will need to register.

Next Music on Main Friday, July 12

Music on Main Event for Ada

The Buy Ada First committee is hosting its second Music on Main event at downtown Ada this summer.

The Music on Main event is from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 12, at the Depot Park. Music will be provided by Kevin Plaugher – from the group Common Thread and WONB-94.9 FM, which includes music from the 1950s to today.

The Ada Kiwanis Club will hold a pre-sale Harlan’s chicken barbecue dinner during the event at the Depot Parking lot.

Pioneer Skills Day Camp at Allen County Farm Park

On Tuesday and Wednesday, June 25-26 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District will offer, Pioneer Skills Day Camp at the Allen County Farm Park.

Youth ages 10-14 will enjoy learning about life on the farm in the mid-1800s. Cook lunch on a coal burning cook stove, milk a goat, hitch up a team of horses to cultivate the vegetable garden, cut firewood with a bucksaw, and make homemade ice cream.

The Allen County Farm Park is located east of Lima in Bath Township, at the corner of State Route 81 (Ada Road) and Slabtown Road.
