State Route 195 closing reminder

Machinery is being put in place for scheduled road work on State Route 195 south of McGuffey to CR 110. The closing begins June 9 and will last for 30 days. Here are Ken Collins’ photos looking south from McGuffey and looking north to McGuffey from County Road 110.

Free summer reading program at Alger Library

Libraries Rock is the theme

“Libraries Rock” is the theme of the Alger Library’s free summer reading program going on now through July 20.  Kids, teens and adults are encouraged to participate by checking-out and reading books to receive tickets for prizes to be awarded at the end of summer read.

Community health carnival Saturday

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at ONU HealthWise - lots of games, prizes and health info

ONU HealthWise invites Icon viewers to a community health carnival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 9.

It takes place on the ONU campus between the Robertson-Evans pharmacy building and Mathile. Persons may enter the Raabe parking lot from Lincoln Avenue.

Here’s the events planned:

Games and activities for all ages:
 • Corn hole
• Coloring and crafts
• Carnival games, such as ring toss, disk shoot, lucky duck
• Photos with Klondike
• Health and Wellness activity card

Chances to win prize
• Door prizes for attending
• Complete your activity card and win game tickets

Special wine event June 9 at The Inn at ONU

The Inn at ONU has a summer of entertainment planned ranging from live music to a night of comedy and a family-friendly pirate and mermaid party. Here are the details:

Saturday, June 9, 5 p.m.
In celebration of National Rose’ Day, the Inn presents an Italian food and wine pairing. The evening includes live music in the garden courtyard with samplings of flatbreads from the grill, rose’ wines and Italian food.

Tickets are $50 per person, including tax and gratuities. Calling the Inn at 419-7872-4112 requires advance tickets.

A flower show for children and teens

The Deep Roots Garden Club will present “Reading Rocks: Junior Flower Show” at the Alger Public Library on Thursday, June 28. The flower show is open to all children who will be under the age of 18. Contact the library for additional information.

Alger Library summer reading program

The Alger Library summer reading program kickoff will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5 with Dr. Ooze and his Totally Gross Magic Show.

Dr Ooze has created magic at its grossest with strange noises, slimy green stuff, and foot fungus. To be chosen as one of Dr. Ooze’s helpers during the show, create a sign that says “Pick Me.”

 Additional information about the summer reading program, including a calendar of events, will be available at the kickoff. Children, teens and adults are welcome to participate in the program. Check out the library’s Facebook page or website at algerlibrary.org.
