Free movie, history lessons, kite-making and much more

Ada Public library is welcoming in spring with some special events this month.

Conquer your cabin fever by coming to the library for their free movie, complete with popcorn, this Satruday, 9 March, starting at 11 a.m.

Or if you're looking for a more intellectual activity, come hear talks on the History of Warfare by Dr. Lomax, retired ONU history professor. On Wednesday, March 20, at 3:30 p.m., Dr. Lomax will focus on the Gunpowder Revolution. The Industrial Total Warfare will be the focus for the next Wednesday, March 27, and on April 3, the topic will be Asymmetric Warfare.

Wednesday at the public library

Afternoon: Training session on Lynda.com; Evening: Dealing with grief

Two programs focusing on two different interests are on Wednesday's calendar at the Ada Public Library.

The afternoon is a "Learn to use Lynda.com" program. In the evening is the first of a series of programs on "dealing with grief." Details on both programs follow:

Lynda.com
Lynda, a.k.a, Lynda.com, offered more than 12,000 expert-led courses designed for any skill level.

A free training session takes place at the library at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday. All you need is an Ada Public Library card to take the training.

Struggling to overcome grief

Free programs offered by Parnership for Violence Free Families at public library

Note: The Partnership for Violence Free Families recently celebrated 15 years serving Allen, Auglaize, and Hardin counties. As PVFF services have evolved and grown. The company name will be changed to reflect that. The new name is Prevention Awareness Support Services and be known as PASS.

The Mental Health Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize and Hardin Counties will hold a series of free programs focusing on the struggle to overcome grief.

The programs take place in the Ada Public Library from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays, March 6, through May 8, according to Chris Estes, Prevention Marketing Specialist, LOSS Team Coordinator.

Power restored and Ada Public Library is open

Ada Public Library is open now that power is restored to the northside of Ada.

Rhett Grant, director, said that power was restored at 11:30 a.m. and the library opened at 1:15 p.m.

"Conversing with ghosts: The real history of fairtales"
Presented by Jennifer Pullen, Ph.D., assistant professor of creative writing/fiction at Ohio Northern University

And:
"The role of chemistry in a sustainable future"
Presented by Bradley Wile, Ph.D., associate professor of Chemistry at Ohio Northern University.

The chats are presented by Heterick Memorial Library and Ada Public Library. They are free and open to the public.

Special-interest programs on Wednesday and Saturday

Two special programs open to the public are on the Ada Public Library calendar this week.

The History of Warfare
The first of a multi-part series on The History of Warfare, presented by John Lomax, retired professor of history at Ohio Northern University, takes place Wednesday.

The initial program is from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 13, which centers on “Germanic tribal warfare.”  The series continues with programs at the same time on the following Wednesdays:

• Feb. 27 – Chivalric warfare
• March 6 – Gunpowder revolution
• March 13 – Industrial total warfare
• March 20 – Asymetric warfare
