It's a legal thriller

Book signing by ONU professor Monday at the public library

Scott Douglas Gerber, law professor at Ohio Northern University, will discuss his latest novel, “The Art of The Law,” at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 24, at the Ada Public Library.

Topic of the presentation will be, “Why a law professor writes fiction.”  The program is free and open to the public.

While in law school, Gerber read some novels by Attorney John Grisham (legal mysteries).  He liked the genre and thought he’d give novel writing a try.

“I feel I have a different perspective as a law professor than a trial lawyer might have,” said Gerber.

Let them eat chocolate

Feb. 22 is the Ada Public Library's 8th annual chocolate bake off

Chocolate is the word at the Ada Public Library this month.

On Monday, Feb. 17, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. is a chocolate Olympics for 6th graders through senior high school students.

Then, on Saturday, Feb. 22, is one of the most popular events on the library’s calendar. It’s the Great Chocolate bake off. It’s open to all ages, but participants must sign-up in advance. There’s an entry division for youth and one for adults.

Last year’s winners were the mother-son team of Erin and Timothy Chrissobolis.

Timothy entered a brownie cake with cookie butter frosting. His mom entered an Oreo chocolate cake.

Trustee opening on Ada Public Library board

Nominees must live in Ada school district

The Ada Public Library Board of Trustees seeks nominations to fill an open seat on the board, according to Rhett Grant, library director.

Trustees must live in the Ada Public Library District (same as the Ada School District) and be able to attend board meetings at 9 a.m. on the third Monday of each month.

"Trustees should have an interest in the library, a willingness to serve, and a desire to help ensure that the library is able to offer the best possible services and resources to the Ada community," he said.

Thanks to the Ada Public Library, countless authors and actors are available through their books and movies and even “escorted” right to your front door!

The library’s Homebound Delivery Program makes materials available to Ada residents who aren’t able to visit the library, yet want to check out books, CDs and DVDs.  Library Director Rhett Grant delivers the materials and will help select topics of interest or honor requests for certain authors and genres.  Participants can keep the items for a month and there are no late fees.

Keep calm and build gingerbread houses

No building permits required, and you can eat it when you feel like it

Welcome to my house…you can’t get in, but you can eat it.

For the seventh season Ada Public Library hosted gingerbread house building parties. This year’s two-day event attracted nearly 50 home builders, according to Natalie Walton of the library staff.

“We supplied the graham crackers, canned frosting, Christmas candy, chocolate sprinkles and shredded coconut for the snow effect,” She said, adding that there’s not much direction required once all the supplies are in front of you.

Over the seasons, the project has attracted infants to seniors. And, lots of families have joined in the construction project.
