Water, water, everywhere on Ada council's agenda

Water was on the minds of council members on Tuesday night, as Ada's village council considered a proposal to weatherproof the exterior facade of the Municipal Building at 115 W. Buckeye St. and a request by a farmer's father to help him pay for field drainage improvements that he says benefits the village.

The council approved a proposal by Trisco Systems to weatherproof the brick building that houses the village's administrative offices and its council chamber.

Ada council: Recent hire at Ada Police Department quits

A set-back for the Ada Police, storm sewer projects, and surprising bids for repainting the water tower were topics at Tuesday’s village council meeting in Ada.

In his report to councilors and mayor, Chief Michael Harnishfeger announced that a recent hire to the police department is leaving.

"Ryan Schroeder, our full time officer that we hired in July or August. he’s midway in our probation, and he’s leaving us,” said Chief Harnishfeger with a grimace.  “He’s going to go back to selling cars.”

He said he hated the process of finding and training a new officer.

Dr. Amy Mullins, Matt Gossman now on Ada school board

Two new board members are on the Ada board of education.

At Monday's board meeting, two new board members were sworn in to serve our school district. They are Dr. Amy Mullins and Matt Gossman.

Ada council considers legislation for North Simon Street storm sewer project

Ada council will act on two resolutions on Tuesday involving the North Simon Street storm sewer project.

Passage enables the village to seek state funding assistance for the project. Upon passage, Mayor David Retterer will submit an application to participate in the Ohio Public Works Commission’s State Capital Improvement and/or Local Transportation Improvement Programs.

Council will also act on legislation for engineering for the project.

Jeff Oestreich will serve as Ada council president in 2016

Jeff Oestreich will serve at Ada council president in 2016. Oestreich was chosen for the position by council members at Tuesday's 2016 council reorganization meeting.

Other council committee appoints were also announced. Those committees are listed in an attachment at the bottom of this story.

Ada council set to reorganize for 2016

Ada council has some New Year appointments to make at its first meeting of 2016, slated for 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 4.

Among those decisions is selecting a council president and seven committee chairs:
• Finance
• Street
• Building/grounds
• Safety
• Personnel
• Utility
• Economic development

Plus, council members will chose representatives to the ambulance board, planning commission, negotiation committee enterprise zone and enterprise review committee.

All this is in addition to the regular agenda, which is an attachment at the bottom of this story.
