Ada council approves several purchases

Bobcat excavator, pumps and go-head for 60-manhole reconstruction project

Several significant village-related expenditures were approved by Ada council on Feb. 25.

Among these include the purchase of a Bobcat compact excavator at a cost of $53,077. 

The excavator is in the current village budget and will be used by the public works department for work on streets, water distribution and sanitary and storm collection systems. The purchase is from Bobcat of Lima.

Village officials priced seven machines and visited four dealerships prior to making its selection. 

Village income tax revenue up from 2019

Annexation resolution sent to Hardin County Commissioners

Ada village income tax revenue is up $34,006 from last year, according to Patty Navin, Ada village fiscal officer. She updated Ada council on revenue, comparing 2019 to 2020, as of the end of February.

Her report was given in the Feb. 25 council meeting. Village income tax revenue is up 10.74 percent, safety income tax is up 12.02 percent and pool income tax reserves are up 12.02 percent. (See the accompanying chart below)

In other council action on Feb. 25, council passed by emergency legislation to annex property located near the southwest corner of the village.

School board planning session focus includes facilities and athletics

Ada school board approved several actions affecting the 2020-21 school year at its Feb. 20 board meeting.

In addition, it held a planning session with the discussion lasting for one hour and 17 minutes focusing on facilities, athletics and “miscellaneous” items.

During the meeting, the board entered three executive sessions. The first for 16 minutes, the second for 59 minutes and the third for 35 minutes.

School board meets Feb. 20

Ada school board will meet on Thursday, Feb 20, at 5:30 p.m. in the school’s board room, at 725 W. North Ave.

School board sets executive session Jan. 30

To evaluate superintendent, treasurer, to consider personnel issues and security arrangements

Ada school board will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30, in executive session, according to Matt Gossman, board president.

The meeting will be to evaluate the superintendent and treasurer and to consider personnel issues. No action is anticipated following the session, according to Gossman.

Following its reorganization meeting, the board opened its regular January. The board meeting staff notes, not yet approved by the board, are attached at the bottom of this story.

Matt Gossman elected 2020 school board president

Committee appointments set for this year

Matt Gossman was elected president of the Ada school board in 2020, during its reorganization meeting held Jan. 9. He replaced Amy Mullins, who was elected vice-president for 2020. 

Several additional new year appointments followed.

The board set meeting dates as the third of each month at 6 p.m. with meetings to take place in the board office of the 1971 wing of the schools.

Among other action involving 2020, the board designated the Kenton Times as the official newspaper for the board notices.
