The secret's out: Reichert’s host to Ada’s “cash mob” on Oct. 16

The secret’s out. The Buy Ada First Committee, planning the community’s first-ever cash mob, this week announced the location of the event.

The cash mob takes place at one of Ada’s most prominent retail businesses, Reichert’s, 111-113 S. Main St., from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16.

“Fred Reichert welcomed our invitation to host this first-ever event of its kind in Ada,” said Heather Cox, member of the committee. “We hope this will be the first of several more cash mobs held in Ada during the next 12 months.”

"Ashfall" author Mike Mullin speaks at Ada High School during Teen Read Week

 Author of the popular young adult book "Ashfall,"  Mike Mullin, will speak at Ada High School  on Tuesday, Oct. 16, during Teen Read Week.

According to Chanda Smith, high school media specialist, Mullin will speak in a high school assembly at 8:45 a.m. He will also visit with students in a high school science class.

Mullin wrote his first novel in elementary school and has been writing more or less non-stop ever since. "Ashfall" is his first published novel. He holds a black belt in Songahm Taekwondo. He lives in Indianapolis.

Men's soccer ranked No. 9, No. 21 in fifth weekly D3soccer.com and NSCAA polls

The Ohio Northern men's soccer team is ranked No. 9 in the sixth weekly D3soccer.com poll Men's Division III poll and is No. 21 in the sixth weekly 2012 Continental Tire/NSCAA on Tuesday.

ONU has now been nationally ranked in four of the past five seasons.

In the D3soccer.com poll, Ohio Northern received 365 points and was ranked No. 10 in last week's poll.

Trinity (Tex.) is ranked No. 1, Messiah (Pa.) is second and St. Lawrence (N.Y.) is third.

ONU presents Mystic Drumz Oct. 20

 

Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present Mystic Drumz on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 10 a.m.

Mystic Drumz is a unique, multimedia rhythm and sound program for children that specializes in world music and focuses on the environment. This hands-on interactive performance showcases eclectic international percussion instruments from around the world, linking geography to sounds, rhythms to science, and laughter to learning.

Klusek notches goal as women's soccer falls 2-1 to Otterbein

Sophomore Kristina Klusek scored in the 54th minute, but Otterbein scored two first half goals and held on for a 2-1 victory over the Ohio Northern women's soccer team Tuesday afternoon at Ohio Northern soccer field.

The Polar Bears drop to 6-3-3 overall and 1-3-0 in the OAC, while the Cardinals move to 9-4-0, 4-0-0.

Lindsay Henderson scored on a penalty kick with 6:43 gone in the match. Morgan Hendrickson was taken down in the box on a breakaway, setting up a penalty kick.

Otterbein added to its lead in the 42nd minute when Jessica Yaney put the ball in the net on a cross from Molly Kroger.
