Three book discussion groups working on August's assignment

Three book discussion groups at the Ada Public Library are tearing into the August book selections. There’s still time to join.

The discussion groups follow:

TWEEN (4th-6th grades) BOOK GROUP:
Friday, August 1st, 4p.m.

Aug. 18 - yes, the new school year is just around the corner

Monday, Aug. 18.

You don't have to check the calendar - it's true, the 2014-14 school year is just around the corner.

As a tune-up for school, the Ada school website has the following 2014-15 school lists:

• Elementary suppy list
• Elementary medical form
• Elementary school fees will be posted soon
• High School emergency medical form
• High School fees will be posted soon
• The district 2014-15 calendar

Sign of the times

That's right. The 101st annual Ada Farmers' and Merchants' Picnic is coming to a town near you soon. This year's picnic is Friday and Saturday, Aug. 8-9.

Ada Bingo for August 2014

Ada Bingo plays on Thursdays at the Alumni N-men’s Building in downtown Ada. The dates are August 7, 14, 21 and 18.

Doors open at 5:30; bingo begins at 6:55. Ada Bingo uses new, radio-controlled electronic machines as well as traditional paper packages.

Proceeds from Ada Bingo benefits the Ada Lion's Club, Ada Music Boosters and the Ada-Liberty Volunteer Fire Department.

Is your street on this summer's repair schedule?

Ada’s summer street program is in full gear this month.

The program includes a mix of curb and approach work and street resurfacing. Here’s the list of streets on the program:

• Grand Street from State Route 81 to McIntosh Terrace
• South Simon Street from East Lima Avenue to East Lincoln Avenue
• East Dobbins Avenue from Main to Simon Street
• East University Avenue from Main to Ream Street
• Gilbert Street from College Avenue to the railroad
• East College Avenue from Main to first alley east of Main
• Central Avenue from Main to end of street

In addition, major reconstruction work is in progress on East Lima Avenue.

How much is that horsey in the window?

A horse on Ada's Main Street? The last one trotted through town decades ago. The horse has returned on Main Street. This one is in the window of  Artists Boutique on Main, 117 S. Main St. It's ready to saddle up and ride off into the sunset.
