The Ada High School girls soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with visiting Spencerville in a Northwest Conference match Monday night, October 2.
Bulldog senior Ella Marshall tallied the Ada goal to extend her program career record to 48. She also has scored a Bulldog record 19 goals this season.
Junior Lexi Poling dished out the assist.
Bulldog senior keeper Katie Sizemore saved four shots.
Ada led 1-0 with a minute left when the Bearcats punched in a goal off a corner kick scrum in front of the net to tie it.
With the draw, Ada is 6-3-3 overall and 1-3-1 in NWC play.
Spencerville is 1-6-5 overall and also is tied with Ada in the NWC standings at 1-3-1.
“Spencerville packs the box with defenders,” said Ada head coach Doug Dewese. “Other than a few quick counter-attacks, we dominated play and were in their end of the field.
“Unfortunately that also means it’s very difficult to score,,” he continued. “This is their fifth tie because of a bunker defense, and it curtailed our play style of quick, slashing attacks.”
Dewese lamented the slow, defensive style of the Bearcats.
“We let them hang around and gave up a scrum corner kick goal,” he said. “The Ada ladies played hard but we couldn’t find our game or rhythm considering we are used to quick attacks, which are hard to do when you play in such a confined area as the other team’s defensive third.”
The Ada girls match at Van Wert scheduled last Saturday morning was canceled due to dense fog. It is likely to be made up at a date TBA.
Ada (2-1-1 NCOSA) entertains North Central Ohio Soccer Association rival Van Buren (8-2-2, 2-1-1 NCOSA) Wednesday at 5 p.m. The teams are tied for second in the six-team league standings behind 4-0 Liberty-Benton.
