Bulldog boys basketball stifles Royals

By Cort Reynolds

BLOOMDALE – The visiting Ada High School boys basketball team stymied Blanchard Valley Conference rival Elmwood 45-33 on Friday, December 20 to remain undefeated in their new league.

Ada led 11-9 after the first period, and remained ahead 18-17 at intermission following a low-scoring first half.

The Bulldogs outscored the Royals 27-16 in the second half. Ada won the third period 14-8, and took the fourth quarter 13-8.

The Bulldogs improved to 5-2 overall with the road win to stay unbeaten at 3-0 in the BVC. Elmwood, coached by Ada alumnus Ty Traxler, fell to 1-3 and 1-2 in BVC play after the defeat.

“It was just another gritty, hard-fought road win,” said veteran Ada head coach Chris Sautter. “We saw a junk defense (triangle and two), and it took a little while to settle in. But the kids adjusted and made some plays down the stretch to pull away.

Weekend Doctor: Balancing your diet during the holidays

It's the most wonderful time of the year. It can be for some of us, while others totally dread the holiday season. The holidays are filled with seeing long-lost family and friends and maybe spending a little too much time with the family you are obligated to see. No matter what your family and friend situation may be, we all face the dreaded “holiday weight.”

During this time of year, I hear my patients tell me that there are so many treats around the office, and they find themselves going to parties here and there, which is why they have put on weight. Once the new year rolls around, they will get back on the diet wagon. But my comeback question is always, “Why do you take a two-month break from your diet?” In this scenario, many people are letting bad habits form in that time, which makes them harder to break come January.

2024 Letters to Santa, part 3

Students in Miss Daniels' 3rd grade class at Ada Elementary School are writing to Santa Claus. The Icon will share these in several installments.

Today's letters are from Jackson, Aybriana, Virgil, Harper, Elise, Hazel and Memphis.

Dear Santa,

I have several questions for you, Mrs. Claus and even the reindeer and elves. Do you turn veggies to look and taste like sweet candy? Do you feed the deer oates? Mrs. Claus, what's your favorite cookie to make? Is it chocolate chip? Reindeer, how do you guys fly? Does Santa take good care of you? Hey elves what's the most liked toy? What's the toy you have made the most so far this year?

I think I am on the nice list because I help out at home. I help make dinner and cook at my nana’s house. At my dad’s house I clean my room. I am going to help decorate at my nana’s for Merry Thanksmas.
