Michael Bolen served in the U.S. Army

Michael Bolen, age 66, of McGuffey Ohio, passed away on Good Friday, March 29, 2024. 

He was born on April 18, 1957 in Wayne Michigan to Norman Ray and Coletta (Spencer) Bolen. His Father Norman “Ray” proceeded him in death and his mother Coletta “Katie” survives in Alger. 

Also surviving are his four children: Jessica (James) Anderson of Granville, Johnny Bolen of Celina, Dustin Bolen of McGuffey and Ashley Bolen of Lima; eight grandchildren; and two brothers who were his best friends, Charles (Mary) Bolen and Barry (Susanne) Bolen. 

ODNR offering free vessel safety checks

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Parks and Watercraft is helping boaters get ready for a safe and enjoyable season on the water with free vessel safety checks. These voluntary inspections, conducted by ODNR Natural Resources Officers, ensure that boats are properly equipped with all legally required safety gear before setting out for the season.
 

Konner R. Ernest worked in the restaurant industry

Konner R. Ernest, age 30, of Ada, passed away at his residence on Thursday, March 13, 2025. 

On July 2, 1994 in Indianapolis, Indiana Konner was born to the late Sherri Lynn (Long) Cullivan. 

He is survived by his grandmother, Doris “Dodie” Long; father, Mike Ernest; niece, Bella Cullivan; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

Konner worked as a manager in the restaurant industry. 

Ada Bulldog softball blanks Elida with defense, pitching

ELIDA – The visiting Ada High School softball team shut out Elida 2-0 in a non-league pitcher’s battle of the Bulldogs Thursday evening, May 27.

“We played amazing defense,” said fourth-year Ada head coach Jeff Bassitt. 

The visiting Ada Bulldogs buckled down defensively with runners on base and came up with timely pitching to keep Elida scoreless.

Ada improves to 2-0 with the road victory, while Elida fel1 to 1-1 after the defeat. Elida pounded out 24 hits and won at perennial NWC power Crestview 12-4 Wednesday.

Bulldog Zimmerman named HM All-Ohio boys basketball

COLUMBUS – The 2025 Divisions IV, V, VI and VII boys basketball All-Ohio teams were announced on March 26 by the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association. 

Ada junior wing Zack Zimmerman was named honorable mention all-state for Div. VI. The 6-2 junior averaged a team-high 14.2 points per game and led the Bulldogs in three-point field goals made this past season.

Zimmerman hit several big late-game shots to help lead Ada to a 14-9 overall record (7-3 Blanchard Valley Conference) in 2024-25.

Council meetings on proposed vendors ordinance postponed

Due to unavailability of the meeting room at Community Health Professionals the meetings previously listed in the Ada Icon have been postponed.

The ordinance has also been tabled for further review by the Village’s Solicitor. We will issue an update on the meetings and the ordinance as soon as they are available.
