Icon book review: Nailing It

Review by Robert McCool

In Robert Dilenschneider's December of 2021 release of “Nailing It-How History's Awesome Twentysomethings Got It Together” (Citadel Press, $16.95. ISBN: 978-0-8065-4175-4 PB), we see the future through the past, be it by circumstance or choice. The future we create by our own desires. In our twenties these choices determine our path forward to our later life. It can be a calling from our hearts or minds to follow what life has presented to us. What we choose when we're young enough to dream--and old enough to strike out on our own and fight for our beliefs.

Layer up and soldier on

The Ada High School homecoming celebrations were sprinkled and delayed by rain, but particpants simply put on their rain gear and school spirit. Go Bulldogs!

Letter to the Icon: Thank you to McGuffey supporters

The McGuffey Memories Historical Society submitted the follow letter thanking participants in the August 28 celebration of McGuffey's 125th anniversary.

The Ada VFW  started our festivities with raising the flag and honoring lost soldiers.  We were located in the USV school parking lot. The USV teacher’s union created games for the children.  We had  a pet photo contest,  a children’s train, face-painting by CEF,  goats to pet, and 4 bounce houses. McGuffey Church of Christ provided free ice cream and McGuffey Freewill Baptist provided free juice and water for the children.

Ada gridders fall to undefeated Grove

Visiting league-leader Columbus Grove raced to a 42-0 halftime lead and beat Ada 58-7 in a Northwest Conference game on a rainy Homecoming Friday night.

The game was delayed at the start for an hour by strong rain and lightning.

The purple and gold Bulldogs fell to 1-7 and 0-5 in the NWC with the defeat.

League leader Grove improved to 8-0 and 5-0 in league play with the convincing win.

"We are in the same boat with kids trying hard and doing the best they can," said first-year Ada head coach Toby Smith. "We were in position a lot but didn't make plays.
