Ada girls soccer seeded eighth

The Ada girls soccer team will play at Cory-Rawson Tuesday, October 19 at 5 p.m. in sectional first round action.

The Lady Bulldogs (2-8-1) were seeded eighth and the Hornet girls (4-8-1) were seeded ninth in the Div. III Bluffton sectional/district.

The Ada/C-R victor will play at top seed Liberty-Benton (9-4-2) Oct. 21 at 5 p.m. The winner advances to the district semifinals at Bluffton Oct. 26 against the Ashland Crestview/Van Buren (8-4-1) winner. 

Mansfield Christian was seeded second and Bluffton third in the 10-team bracket.

Ada spikers to play Grove in sectionals

The Ada volleyball team was seeded 11th in the 12-team Div. IV Elida sectional drawing held Sunday, October 10.

Ada (2-17) will visit league rival and fellow Bulldog Columbus Grove (7-12) in the sectional semifinals Tuesday, October 19 at 5 p.m. 

Ada lost 3-0 at Grove September 16.

The Bulldog battle survivor will play at fourth seed Pandora-Gilboa (12-7) October 21 at 6:30 p.m. The winner advances to the district semifinals Oct. 26 at Elida. 

Sixth seed Hardin Northern (12-8) hosts number 10 seed USV (4-12) in the other first round matchup in the lower half of the bracket. The winner plays at second seed New Knoxville (18-1) Oct. 21.

Judith Ann Kiracofe graduated from Bluffton High School

Judith Ann Kiracofe, 74, passed away October 9, 2021 Mercy Health-St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.  Judy was born June 5, 1947 in Bluffton to the late Earl and Josephine (White) Cheney.  On January 7, 1967 she married Jerry Kiracofe who preceded her in death on September 2, 2020. 

Judy was a graduate of Bluffton High School.  She was a homemaker. Her and her husband, Jerry had owned and operated the Lazy Circle J Ranch, J and J Pet Store, Grammy and Grampy's Place and Kiracofe's Lawn and Garden.  Judy was a member of the Ohio State Rabbit Breeders, the Florida White Breeders and the VFW in Columbus Grove.  Judy enjoyed crafting, crocheting, painting and fishing.  

Frank V. Evilsizer drove for Roeder Cartage

Frank V. Evilsizer, 66, passed away October 8, 2021 at Lima Memorial Health System. Frank was born November 9, 1954 in Cleveland to the late Jim and Kathleen (Moran) Evilsizer. On January 3, 1981 he married Sandra Dunifon Evilsizer who survives.

Frank was a graduate of Bluffton High School. He was a truck driver for Roeder Cartage, Lima. Frank was a member of the Hog Creek Game Club and avid outdoorsman who enjoyed firearms, hunting, camping and fishing.  

Donald E. Thompson drove for Ken Lugibihl Auto Sales

Donald E. Thompson, 83, passed away October 9, 2021 at Mercy Health - St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.  Donald was born December 13, 1937 in Ada to the late Eugene and Mozelle (Bullock) Thompson. On November 26, 1955 he married Wilma Dunlap Thompson.  

Donald was a graduate of Ada High School. He was a truck driver for Scot-Lad and later drove for Ken Lugibihl Auto Sales. Donald was a member of True Word Tabernacle, Bluffton. He enjoyed four-wheeling and playing the banjo.  

Ada population proclamation

At the October 5 meeting of the Village of Ada council, village administrator Jamie Hall reported that a proclamation has been made by the State of Ohio declaring the village population to be 3,729.

The proclamation adjusts Ada’s 2020 census count of 5,334 minus 1,605 Ohio Northern University students. 

Proclamations were also issued for the villages of Grafton (minus Lorain Correctional inmates) and Granville (minus Denison University students).
