Short-handed Bulldog boys lose to Ottoville

Despite being short-handed, the visiting Ada High School boys basketball team stayed close to Ottoville for three quarters before losing 64-40 in a non-conference game Saturday night, January 29.

Ada hung within striking distance down 43-30 heading to the final period. 

But the Big Green closed on a 21-10 note to win going away.

Ada junior guard Spencer Wall scored five early points, but took a hit to the head in the first quarter and missed the rest of the game.

"We held up pretty well considering we were without him," said first-year Bulldog head coach Vince Halliday. "We were only down 13 after three.

Bulldog wrestler McClain places at Sally George Invite

The Ada HIgh School wrestling team battled at the two-day, 24-team Sally George Invitational tournament with several big schools hosted by Marion Pleasant Friday and Saturday. 

Marion Pleasant won the double-elimination tournament with 208 points. Jonathan Alder took second at 192.5. Ada tied for 23rd place with Sugarcreek Garaway.

Bulldog sophomore Clayton McClain was the lone Ada placer, coming in sixth in the 126 lbs. division. He posted a 2-3 record in the two-day tournament. 

Seeded second, he got a first round bye and won his first match by pinning Tony Cummins of Indian Lake at 3:25.

West Ohio Food Bank distributions in Ada

The West Ohio Food Bank has released a monthly food distribution schedule for the remainder of 2022, including four Hardin County events at Ohio Northern University Dial-Roberson Stadium Front Lot. (Complete schedule is attached.)

Mary Howard worked for Wilson Sporting Goods

Mary Howard, age 85, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022, at her residence in McGuffey, surrounded by her family.

Mary was born on September 23, 1936, in Knott County, Kentucky to the late Tandy and Maudie (Bolen) Conley.  On January 11, 1955, Mary married Charles Howard and he preceded her in death on July 1, 2009.

Mary is survived by three sons: Paul Howard of McGuffey, Greg (Natalie) Howard of Ada, and Mike (Tera) Howard of Alger; a daughter, Wynema Rose Sanders of McGuffey; nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Halie Nichols of Harrod.

Ronnie Howard worked for National Standard

Ronnie Howard, age 74, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022, at 1:49 p.m. at Blanchard Valley Health System, Findlay.

He was born on April 27, 1947, in McGuffey, Ohio to the late Ira and Ezza (Allen) Howard.  On July 10, 1971, Ronnie married Sandra K. Gossman and she survives in Williamstown.

Also surviving is a son, Paul (Bobbi Jo) Howard of Dunkirk; two daughters: Pam Howard of Williamstown and Sara Howard of Van Buren; a grandson, Cody Howard; and two brothers, Ed Howard of Hertinger, North Dakota and Robert (Judy) Howard of Lakeview.
