Bulldog wrestler McClain places at Sally George Invite

The Ada HIgh School wrestling team battled at the two-day, 24-team Sally George Invitational tournament with several big schools hosted by Marion Pleasant Friday and Saturday. 

Marion Pleasant won the double-elimination tournament with 208 points. Jonathan Alder took second at 192.5. Ada tied for 23rd place with Sugarcreek Garaway.

Bulldog sophomore Clayton McClain was the lone Ada placer, coming in sixth in the 126 lbs. division. He posted a 2-3 record in the two-day tournament. 

Seeded second, he got a first round bye and won his first match by pinning Tony Cummins of Indian Lake at 3:25.

McClain then defeated sophomore Tristan Hanning of Logan Elm by majority decision, 13-2. In the next round, he lost to third seed Gabe Hansen from North Union, 8-0.

In the consolation semifinal, McClain lost to Liberty Center freshman Jackson Bartels by a 5-0 decision. In the fifth-place bout, McClain lost to fourth-seeded Elgin freshman Colton Long, 7-0.

Seeded third at the 132 lbs. bracket, Bulldog freshman Rowan West received a first round bye. He then won his first match by pin at 5:04 over Elgin sophomore Nikoli Mooney.

He then lost to Kenton senior Logan Brown in the third round by pin at 1:25. In the consolation bracket, West lost his first match to sophomore Gavynn Lowery of Indian Lake via pin at 2:55.

At 138 lbs., Ada freshman Trevor McGue got a first round bye and lost his first match to senior Tyjuan Jackson of London by pin at 1:51.

He then lost to Northland senior Emmanuel Sandoval by pin in the first consolation round at 1:23.

At 165 lbs., Bulldog freshman Colton Cole had a bye in the opening round, and then lost his initial match to Indian Lake junior Carson Greiner by pin at 2:28.

In the first consolation round, Cole fell to freshman Josh Ahern of North Union via pin at 4:21.

In the 175 lbs. weight class, Ada freshman Landon Simon received two byes to start. He then lost to top-seeded senior C.J. Smith of Pleasant by pin at 2:08. 

In the first round of the consolation bracket, Simon was pinned in 20 seconds by freshman Clayton Seel of Liberty Center.

The Bulldog matmen host the Ada Invitational Saturday, February 5. 

Cory-Rawson, Lima City Schools, Fostoria, Eastwood, Toledo Christian, Triad, Lima Central Catholic, Delphos St. John's, Riverdale, Ridgedale, North Baltimore and Sidney-Lehman Catholic are among the schools expected to compete.
