The events of March 31–including the pursuit and arrest of three suspects who drove across Ohio at speeds up to 140 miles per hour and who struck and killed Bluffton Police officer Dominic Francis–have gripped the greater Bluffton area. 

They have also attracted attention across Ohio, the midwest, and the nation, bringing messages of condolence and support from near and far, including from Mayor of Bluffton Richard Johnson:

“The people of the Bluffton community and surrounding areas are experiencing a tragedy that we many times thought, and hoped, we would not have to face.

BVHS adjusts visitation guidelines

Effective, March 31, 2022, Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) is adjusting its visitation guidelines, based on the observed reduction of COVID-19 cases in the community, which will lessen the restrictions on visitors coming into the organization. 

BVHS is lifting visitor restrictions for non-COVID-19 patients at its acute care facilities (including Findlay and Bluffton Hospital and the Findlay Surgery Center), as well as all medical practice settings. The health system’s long-term care facilities continue to follow state and federal guidelines put into place to help ensure the safety of the residents.

Governor orders flags lowered in honor of Officer Dominic Francis

In honor of the life and legacy of Bluffton Police Officer Dominic Francis, Governor DeWine has ordered that flags of the United States and the State of Ohio be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Allen and Hancock counties, the Ohio Statehouse, the Vern Riffe Center, and the Rhodes State Office Tower. Flags shall remain lowered until sunset on the day of his funeral.

All other public buildings and grounds throughout the state may fly the flags of the United States and the State of Ohio at half-staff at their discretion for the same time period.

T-Birds beat Bulldog netters

The visiting Ada High School tennis team lost 4-1 to Lima Central Catholic in their season-opening dual match on Wednesday evening, March 30.

The Bulldog win was recorded at second doubles by newcomers Riley Ferguson and Nate Williams in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.

"As a whole, it was good to get our first match under our belt," said new Ada coach Tyler Christoff. "For some, that was their first match.

"We are hitting the ground running at practice, hoping to get on the right track," he added.

Ada (0-1) is scheduled to host Fostoria Wednesday, April 6 in the home season opener on the park courts at 4:30 p.m.
