The idiom “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” appeared in John Heywood’s Proverbs from 1546 when he wrote there is no fire without smoke. The saying means if unpleasant things are being said about something or someone, then there is probably a good reason. As others have indicated, there is some foundation to the rumor.  

Students from Ada win scholarships from Hardin and Allen counties

Sheets and Woods are Franklin B. Walter scholars

Two Ada residents have been awarded 2022 Franklin B. Walter Scholar honors. Molly Sheets earned Allen County honors as a student at Lima Senior High School. Dexter Woods III earned Hardin County honors as a student at Ada High School.

Sheets plans to attend Juniata College to major in Journalism/Communications.

Woods plans to attend Kettering University to major in Mechanical Engineering.

Since taking the reins of the Ada Icon and Bluffton Icon in September 2021, my time has passed in this fashion: long days and incredibly fast weeks and months. I’m still introducing myself as the “new Fred”—meaning former editor-owner Fred Steiner—and “How’s it going at the Icon?” has become a familiar greeting.

It’s going great: I’m learning something new and meeting someone new every day.

What investors can–and can’t–control

As an investor, you can easily feel frustrated to see short-term drops in your investment statements. But while you cannot control the market, you may find it helpful to review the factors you can control.

Many forces affect the financial markets, including geopolitical events, corporate profits and interest rate movements–forces beyond the control of most individual investors.

In any case, it’s important to focus on the things you can control, such as these:

ONU pharmacy faculty, alumni honored at Ohio conference

COLUMBUS, Ohio - One Ohio Northern University faculty member and nine alumni received awards at the Ohio Pharmacists Association’s (OPA) 144th Annual Conference.

Ronald Jaros, Jr., worked for Honda

Ronald Jaros, Jr., age 58, of Kenton, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at Marion General Hospital. 

He was born on December 12, 1963, in Long Beach, California to the late Ronald and Willa (McClure) Jaros, Sr.

Ronald is survived by his three children: Ryan (Crystal) Goedde of Destin, FL, Kyle (Nikole Brock) Jaros of Bowling Green, and Ember Seagrave of Kenton; two stepdaughters: Amber Christie and Angela Legge; one grandchild; and a sister, Tammy.

Ronald worked for Honda of America. 

It was Ronald’s wish to be cremated, private family services will be held at a later date.
