Ada Loop will bring cyclists to town on July 16

Ride to Remember begins in Bluffton

The Bluffton Lions Foundation will host the Eighth Annual Ride to Remember on Saturday, July 16. The event will be held as an in-person event but will also include an option to ride on your own time at any location.

“Join us for a tour of the beautiful northwest Ohio countryside,” said Travis Music, co-committee chair. Routes are on scenic, flat, paved roads and feature points of interest such as the Bluffton University Nature Preserve, Schumacher Swiss Homestead, and the villages of Ada, Lafayette, Gilboa, Pandora, Rockport and Rawson.

Ohio Violent Crime Reduction Grant Program awards $2 million in second round

$2 million in funding has been awarded by the State of Ohio to help local law enforcement agencies combat violent crime and protect their communities, with the Ada Police Department receiving $53,283.80 for retention bonuses.

Eight law enforcement agencies will receive grants as part of the second round of the new Ohio Violent Crime Reduction Grant Program. Funding will primarily be used to recruit, retain, and hire law enforcement officers.

Karen and Bob Ward celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

Karen and Bob Ward of Ada celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren on Saturday, June 4. 

Karen and Bob Ward were married on June 6, 1972 in Rolla, Missouri, Karen's hometown. At that time, their wedding reception was also held in her back yard with cake, punch, relatives and friends.

Fairlie F. Earl funeral service announced

Fairlie F. Earl, age 87, of Lakeview, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at 12:06 p.m. at Vancrest of Ada.

She was born on November 3, 1934, in McGuffey, Ohio to the late Roy and Breneice Ema (Ziegler-Fark) Hanson. On August 5, 1955, Fairlie married Jack E. Earl and he survives in Lakeveiw.  

Robert E. “Bob” Fissel worked for Freuhauf Trailor Corp.

Robert E. “Bob” Fissel, age 82, of Wapakoneta, passed peacefully away on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at 3:48 a.m. at his home. 

He was born on February 27, 1940, in Spencerville, Ohio to the late Howard and Ada (Mitchell) Fissel. On September 2, 1995, Bob married Carol (Honigford) Fissel and she survives in Wapakoneta.

Also surviving are his three children: Terri (Tom) Marchal of Wapakoneta, Mark Fissel of Lima, and Doug (Deb) Fissel of Powell; two stepdaughters: Birdella Stephens of Elida, and Christie Stephens of LaFayette; a sister, Phyllis Collins of Lima; and nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
