Chen wins three times to lead #25 Men's Swimming & Diving past Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD — Freshman Eric Chen won three times to lead the No. 25-ranked Ohio Northern men's swimming & diving team in a 125-106 victory at Wittenberg on Friday night at the HPER Natatorium.

The Polar Bears remain undefeated with a 4-0 record, while the Tigers fall to 2-4.

Chen won the 200 free in 1:48.94, won the 100 back in :55.66 and combined with senior John Beaschler, junior Brian Heilbronner and freshman Logan Pfeifer to win the 200 free relay in 1:29.08.

In all, ONU won six of the 11 swimming events on the night, including four of the five freestyle events.

Allison Lohnes wins twice to lead Women's Swimming & Diving at Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD — Sophomore Allison Lohnes won twice to lead the Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team in a 153-81 non-conference loss at Wittenberg Friday night at the HPER Natatorium.

The Polar Bears fall to 3-2 on the season, while the Tigers improve to 5-1.

Lohnes won the 200 I.M. in 2:17.50 and the 100 back in 1:01.64.

Senior Lindsey Rayhill also had a strong meet, winning the 100 fly in 1:01.37 and finishing second in the 200 I.M. in 2:19.83.

Senior Jamie Garbash finished second behind Rayhill in the 100 fly in 1:03.33.

Over $4,200 raised during Christmas around the square

The Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance announced the 27th annual Christmas Around the Square event was again successful. The courthouse was filled with craft and gift vendors on all three floors. The annual auction featured thirty one unique holiday baskets which were donated by Alliance member businesses. Hardin County Agriculture Hall of Fame winners named

Ohio State University Extension, Hardin County – The Hardin County Agriculture Hall of Fame has announced the 2013 winners, to be inducted at the eleventh annual Agriculture Hall of Fame recognition banquet.  The 2013 inductees include: Franklin Garmon, Laurie Laird, Rex & Joan Sullinger,and Bernard & Virginia Williams. 

The banquet will be held on Tuesday, December 3rd, beginning at 6:30pm at St. Johns United Church of Christ on East Carrol Street in Kenton. The public is invited to come to honor these inductees and their families, and to recognize their many accomplishments.

Zero holiday weight gain challenge sign-up underway

Are you interested in maintaining your weight or even losing a few pounds during this holiday season?  Could you use some encouragement and guidance but don’t have time to attend classes?   Give our Zero Holiday Weight Gain holiday wellness challenge a try.     

“Zero Holiday Weight Gain Challenge” is an on-line challenge designed to help participants get fit by encouraging regular exercise, nutrition, and wellness tips during the upcoming holiday season.  Participants will receive weekly e-communications and have access to supplemental information available on Blogs and Facebook.  All participant information is kept confidential.

Alliance accepting nominations for 2013 awards

The Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance is now accepting nominations for the 2013 Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, and Community Service Awards.

Anyone from Hardin County may be nominated to receive these honors.  A panel of judges from Alliance members will make the final decision. The recipients will be revealed Thursday, February 27, 2014 during the Alliance’s annual meeting held at Ohio Northern University’s McIntosh Center.

Selection of Citizen of the Year will be based upon an individual's outstanding achievements and contributions which have made Hardin County better.
