Community Improvement Corp. meets April 21

First in-person meeting since January 2020

Following a year of no meetings, Ada’s Community Improvement Corp. (CIC) will hold an in-person meeting at noon, Wednesday, April 21, according to Eileen Peterman, secretary.

The meeting takes place in the Ada railroad depot.

This is the first CIC meeting since Jan. 15, 2020. The agenda includes election of 2021 officers, reports from committee chair, a review of the organization’s finances plus adoption of a 2021 budget.

Current officers are Jami Hall, president, Brandt Miller, vice-president, and Eileen Peterman, secretary and treasurer.

The CIC’s sub-committees include industrial, water resource plan, community and commercial.

Hardin's West Ohio Food Bank distribution on Tuesday

10 a.m. to noon at ONU stadium

NOTE: AN EARLIER STORY LIST AN INCORRECT TIME - The April West Ohio Food Bank's Hardin County food distribution takes place from 10 a.m. to noon p.m., Tuesday, April 6, at the Dial-Roberson Stadium's front lot on the ONU campus, according to Jason Aldrich.

It is a no touch, drive-through distribution.

Enter on Klingler Road. To received food persons must be 18 or older, have a valid photo ID and proof of residency, be at or below 230 percent of the federal poverty guidelines and sign and eligibility to take food home form.

Jim Towey was a teacher at Allen East for 30 years

 James P. “Jim” Towey, 75, passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2021, at 5:20 p.m. at his residence. 

He was born on May 22, 1945, in Ada, Ohio, to the late Leonard “Pat” and Evelyn (Wilcox) Towey. On August 12, 1972, Jim married Jan M. Beining and she survives in Ada.

Jim retired after 30 years from Allen East High School where he was a science teacher. He also worked as a farmer, and served as the tennis coach for St. Marys High School, where they were four time Western Buckeye League champions. Jim also coached 9th grade basketball at St. Marys and Allen East.  He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Ada.

Car fire at Bluffton car wash

FROM BLUFFTON ICON - Bluffton fire department and EMS squads responded to a fire call on Saturday afternoon at the Bluffton Super Car Wash 313 State Route 103.

The vehicle was inside the automatic wash stall. No one was injured in the fire and the Icon is waiting on additional details at this time. Photos by Ryan Canterbury, Slow Order Productions.

Harding sweeps Bulldogs baseball

Ada hosts Grove in NWC opener on Thursday

MARION - The Ada baseball team was swept in two run-rule shortened games at Marion Harding Saturday.

Ada dropped to 1-3 with the 13-3, 12-1 non-league defeats. Meanwhile, MH improved to 3-2 with the pair of victories. 

The Bulldogs led 3-2 in game one before MH reeled off 11 runs in the third through fifth frames to win going away.

In the nightcap, the host Presidents led 2-1 after the first frame. They extended the lead with four runs in the second inning. 

MH plated two runs in the fourth and four more scores in the fourth frame.

The Prexies out-hit the Bulldogs 20-11 in the two games.
